Campaigning for Mizoram Assembly Elections has reached its feverish peak and all campaign activities will end at 4 tomorrow afternoon. Political Parties have virtually discontinued the hectic campaign from this evening. In Kolasib, the UDA concluded the campaign by holding election rally in Diakkawn at noon today.
This was followed by the campaign closing function of the MNF in the same locality. The Congress has already concluded the campaign yesterday in a public rally which was addressed the Party National President, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi. Meanwhile Aizawl District Magistrate declared Monday and the polling day which falls on Tuesday as a ‘Dry day’. In an order issued under Section 144 of Cr. PC, the District Magistrate also declared 8th December, the counting day as a dry day.
In Lunglei and Lawngtlai districts, the first batch of Polling Parties have left today for their respective place of duty. The Election officer in Lunglei informed ZONET today that 59 Polling Parties have left their respective polling stations today which are situated in a far flang interior places. In this district there are 12 villages to be covered on foot by the polling parties. The rest of the Polling Parties will leave for their polling station tomorrow and the day after. In Lawngtlai district, 71 Polling Parties left for their respective polling stations today and the rest will be proceeding to their place of duty tomorrow and the day after. In Aizawl, Mamit, Kolasib, Champhai, Serchhip and Saiha districts, the bulk of the Polling Parties are to proceed to their place of duty tomorrow and a few parties are to be stationed in their respective stations on Monday. In most of the district hqrs. randomization of polling personnel have been completed and the polling materials are also issued to the Polling Parties who are to proceed their destinations tomorrow.

In Champhai, one driver deployed for duty in the elections lodged a complaint to the Returning Officer stating that his postal ballot paper was marked by MNF Party worker against his will. Our Champhai Correspondent reported that the matter was investigated by the election officials and necessary action is being taken as per the election law.

MPF Tawi Constituency Forum said, the rumour about entry of some militants in Tawi constituency is being investigated by the Police and MPF and found it to be baseless. In a press release, the MPF Tawi Constituency Forum said, a report of some anti social elements moving about to induce the people to vote one particular party is received and the Police and MPF immediately investigated into it and could not proved it till today. The MPF Tawi Constituency Forum also asked the people not to be panic because of such wild rumours.

All the 3 major Political Parties contesting in the coming Assembly Elections expressed confidence to win power through the elections. Talking to news reporters in MNF Office today, the MNF General Secretary, Mr. F. Aithanga alleged that the HPC (D) has made clear in its press release that it is working with one political party and does not have connection with the MNF. He also said, the MNF Party has reported the matter to the MPF with a request to take appropriate action. He also blamed the HPC (D) for announcing the party they supported. Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee also expressed confidence to form the government in the coming elections. Talking to news persons in Aizawl Press Club today, the Party General Secretary, Mr. C. Chawngkunga claimed that about half of the 40 percent neutral voters in Aizawl town are expected to vote the Congress. He also said, the people have rejected the ruling MNF Party because of its misrule during the last 10 years. The United Democratic Alliance Secretary, Mr. Lallianchhunga also claimed that the Coordination among the constituent members of UDA is excellent and the people have confidence in the UDA to form a stable government which can work for the people.

The final phase of Polling by postal ballot papers was completed today in 6 Bru Refugee camps in Tripura. A fair percentage of 8373 voters in the camps exercise their franchise during the last two days and the final report on the vote polled is awaited.

Civil Hospital Canteen and Emy drugs store have virtually discontinued issue of medicines on credit to patients who are to get free treatment under Mizoram State Health Care Scheme. ZONET Correspondent is informed that this is because of unpaid accumulated bills amounting to about 24 lakhs of rupees. The canteen proprietor however said that they continue to issue medicines on credit only to the rural patients who really look poor. Emy drug store also said that the accumulated bill has gone up to 9 lakh rupees and they can issue on credit only a medicine for cancer treatment. Meanwhile, ZONET understands that a number of patients expecting free treatment from the hospital expressed disappointment with the Health Care Scheme.

As a marked of celebration of its 6 raising day, Bungkawn Vengthar Branch YMA members donated 20 units of blood for the patients in Aizawl Civil Hospital today. The blood donors were 19 male and 1 female. Their blood was drawn by the blood bank officials in the YMA hall.
