Four killed in CCpur mishaps

Lamka, June 06 2009: Four persons, including three women were killed in separate incidents involving NREGS and BRTF labourers since yesterday, while nine others injured in the mishaps are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

Two individuals including driver of the BRTF today succumbed to injuries as the truck they were traveling plunged from a slope near Santing village, about 93 kms from here at around 9:30 am.

"We were on our way to collect pebbles when were met the accident," Jangkam, a labourer with the BRTF engaged along Tipaimukh Road (NH 150) told The Sangai Express moments after arriving here at around 6pm.Identifying the deceased as the Driver, whose identity he was not very certain about and a female labourer Chingthangmawi (16) of Pangen village, Jangkam said he arrived here with six of his colleagues (all male) who were injured in the incident.

When inquired about the dead bodies, he said, before rushing off to further investigate his friends at a private clinic that they were expected here very soon.

In another incident yesterday, according to sources, two NREGS labourers were killed after the water tanker they were repairing collapsed over them at Lukhumbi village under Samulamlan TD block.

The deceased, both married women were identified are Neipi Kom, 35 wife of Ajoy Meitei and L Wai Nimnei, 55 wife of Songlermang Kom.

Three other women were also injured in the incident and were undergoing treatment.

The Peoples Initiative for Development today expressed their deepest sympathy to the bereaved families and appealed to the authorities concerned to initiate necessary steps so as to console their families.
