Manipur Leading News | MPCC heads towards a divided house

By Our Staff Reporter

IMPHAL, Nov 7 : Even as the Congress led SPF Government is caught in the oust Ibobi campaign launched by dissident Congress MLAs, the MPCC (I) seems headed towards the direction of a divided house, with opposing opinions coming to the fore and groupism within the party becoming the order of the day.

Though a good number of Congress workers had set November 15 as the deadline to implement the assurance of giving more political benefits to them, there is every possibility that the disgruntled Congress men may start their agitation before the deadline.

On the other hand, the Congress Working Committee held its meeting today at Delhi and discussed among other things, the political situation in Manipur.

The details of the meeting are however not available at the time of filing this report.

Earlier in the day, before the CWC meet got underway, dissident MLAs met the Congress leader in charge of North East, Prithiviraj Chauhan and put across their points, said a source from Delhi.

The dissident MLAs are seeking an audience with AICC leaders later in the evening today.

MPCC (I) president Gaikhangam met Chauhan at Delhi today at about 10 am and minutely discussed the current political situation in the State.

An official of the MPCC informed The Sangai Express that following the open revolt by some Congress MLAs against the present leadership, differences of opinion have also cropped up within the MPCC (I), resulting in groupism. The AICC would do wise to address this issue at the earliest, advised the Congressman.

In the meantime, Lok Sabha MP Dr T Meinya and Information Minister TN Haokip returned to Imphal from Delhi today.

On the other hand, MLA O Landhoni, the CM’s wife left for Delhi today.

A Minister who is close to the Chief Minister said that the AICC has advised the Council of Ministers to concentrate on their work and added that the rebel MLAs ought to return home in the interest of the people.
