By A Staff Reporter
IMPHAL, Mar 17: In a macabre and beastly crime, at least eight perons including seven non-locals, believed to be labourers from Bihar, were found massacred this evening.

The seven victims at the first location, all non-locals and apparently hailing from Bihar were shot dead by suspected militants on the roadside along Mayai Lambi at Mayang Imphal Heiyen Hangul some two kilometers away from Mayang Imphal police station after lining them up at around 6.20 pm today, eyewitness accounts said.

The other person who could not immediately be confirmed to be a non-local or a local man was shot dead at a spot located between Phabakchao and Komlakhong under the same police station tonight at around 9.45 pm.

The dead bodies are still lying at the spot as police have not yet entered the spot.

Panic over the terror killings spread among the residents of Mayang Imphal Heiyen Hengun and its surroundings with the local residents remaining shut indoors.

The area was completely deserted after the incident when pressmen reached there.

Police received information of the killing from the local residents but were reluctant to enter the area as darkness had already set in.

They are expected to collect the dead bodies tomorrow morning.
The dead bodies all had gruesome bullet injuries in the heads and were still lying in a row at the spot on the roadside.

Witnesses, some of whom watched the massacre in petrified horror said the killing took place after the miscreants brought the victims in a Maruti van and made them stand in a line on the roadside.

They however were unable to clearly see the faces of the assassins in the darkness.

“The victims were brought in a van apparently coming from Imphal side along the Mayai Lambi road and after forcing them to line up they were shot in a burst of automatic fire,” a witness said.
Reporters who rushed to the spot immediately on getting the information discovered the dead bodies lying, their heads unrecognizably disfigured by bullet injuries.

So bad was the injuries that it was hard initially fo the reporters to identify them as non-locals.

Their hands were also found tied at their backs.

Till late night none of the militant groups operating in the state owned responsibility for the massacre.

Police are also clueless on the matter.

In the meantime, another man was also reportedly shot dead by miscreants at a spot located between Phabakchao and Komlakhong under Mayang Imphal police station.

The identity of the man could not be established immediately.
