Tiddim bandh

IMPHAL, Jun 1 :Peeved with the alleged callous attitude of the State Government towards five individuals who have gone blind after undergoing cataract operation on February 23 last year, the joint action committee constituted in this connection has resolved to call an indefinite Tidim road bandh from June 3.

The five individuals identified as Thoudam Ibecha of Heinoubok Maning Leikai, Huidrom Ibobi of Ishok Maning Leikai, Moirangthem Leirik of Moirang Khunou Leikai , Pebam Achoubi of Nambol Phoijing Chingning and Wahengbam Manao of Khathong Mamang Leikai Nambol underwent cataract operation at an eye camp organised by the District Blindness Control Society, Bishnupur at Bishnupur District Hospital. According to a press release issued by the JAC, Ibecha, Ibobi and Leirik have gone blind in both eyes while Achoubi and Manao have gone blind in one eye after the cataract operation due to sheer negligence and incompetence of the doctors.

Even as families of the victims of the disastrous eye camp submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister on May 26 to redress the woes of the victims, there has been no response from the Government till date. Moreover, a press statement was also issued on May 28 asking the Government to come up with a response by June 2 failing which agitation of all sorts will be launched from the next day, conveyed the JAC. The decision to call Tidim road bandh was adopted during a public meeting held today at Nambol, it informed while seeking cooperation from all civil organisations and the general public towards its protest movement.
