Lamka, Oct 15: Annoyed by the various Governmental policies adopted by the State Government, particularly towards Chura- chandpur, the Chura-chandpur District Students Union has voiced its reservation and dissension on various issues and pleaded to redress them immediately so as to avoid any unforeseen consequences.

A representation submi-tted in this regard by the student body said, it appre-ciate the approval for upgra- dation of Jiribam sub-division into a full fledged revenue district, but felt unfortunate on the inclu-sion of large parts of tribal villages without their will and consent.

Making its dissension on the issue clear, the Union said “not a single inch of the district (Churachandpur) be encroa -ched upon.”

Further, the represen-tations accused the majo- rity community of encroa-ching into the tribal lands and mingling them into the valley.

“Making used of the state machineries and ta-king undue advantage of the various non-functional institutions and the lacunae in the laws of the land said infuriated, the majority people encroached upon part of the originally tribal inhabited areas and through various process amalga-mate it into valley” it said. Kangvai, the district fron-tier village is one case it cited to substantiate their claim.

As a result the territorial areas of Churachandpur has shrunk, added the state-ment and pleads the State Government to restore all the hill districts to its original boundary.

To cater to the needs and requirements of tribal peo-ple inhabiting the hills, the union also urged for res-toration of separate budget for Hill Areas as was in the past and to strengthen Hills Area Committee with ade-quate power and functions.

The union in addition insisted for implementation and execution as per the guidelines and rules of all centrally sponsored pover-ty alleviation and develop- mental pregrammes meant for the hill districts.

Maintaining that it would not hesitate to initiate its own course of action to protect and safeguard the district boundary and rights of the people the Churachandpur District Stu -dents Union representa-tion to the Chief Minister said unforeseen conse-quences will result if the Government fails to perform.
