Well aware of the grave famine situations prevailing in Manipur especially in Jiribam, Chandel, Tamenglong and Churachandpur districts due to the current Mautaam which caused large-scale devastation of crops leading to total harvest failure of rice, the main staple food in the area;
Deeply concerned with the plight of our people in the remote villages in the affected areas facing starvations and death due to acute shortage of rice;
Acknowledging the facts that the efforts of our people to sensitise the authorities about the grim situations are yet to bring any succour to our suffering peoples;
Realising that, in the absence of any hope of any assistance from the authorities forthcoming in any near and foreseeable future, we cannot sit and wait only to see precious lives of our people being lost;
Admitting that it is our bounden duty to ameliorate the suffering of our own in whatever means we can and rescue them from the threats of death due to starvations;
Convinced that many members of our community ardently wish to contribute or do anything they could to help our people in time of their dire needs, but do not know as to how to help or contribute;
I appeal to all Zomis including Zomi diasporas to generously contribute to the welfare of our own people who are badly in need of a helping hand and a healing spirit and remit your generous contributions to saving account number mentioned in web.
“And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther 4:13-14). Esther was able to rescue her people from total destruction and annihilation because she was in the kings’s house. We also knew that Joseph was sent to Egypt under very strange circumstances in order that he might rescue his brethren and his people from the famine that devastated the land. Who knows we are also where we are in order that we can help God’s people, our people back home in the hour of their dire needs. So let us not imagine that we are safer than any other Zomi just because we are outside Zogam and currently not affected by the famine. “Relief and deliverance will rise … from another quarter” for our people. But we may miss the opportunity to be part of this great work of relief and deliverance if we do not act now and do whatever we can.
