Lamka, Aug 26: The Governor today visited Churachandpur district and interacted with various social and student leaders besides visiting the overdue Khuga multipurpose project and the Subsidiary Training Centre of the BSF.Governor Gurbachand Jagat Singh gave a courtesy call to the leaders of CDSU, Hmar Inpui, Kuki Inpi and Zomi Council while he was greeted with a memento by Zomi Council Chairman LB Sona. Hmar Inpui and CDSU made hay of the Governor presence and presented a memo each.
CDSU in its memo reiterates its demand for SSC exam centre, construction of FCS godown and express concern over the Government failure to counter the Mautam famine.
In his response the Governor told the CDSU leaders that establishing a separate centre which is a one hour drive from the capital make no sense to outsiders but on seeing the reality, the situation appears otherwise and there is a need for the same.
He also assured the gathering, including the Co-ordinator of Committee on Mautam Famine Aid and the CDSU that he would give his best to address the calamity that has threaten the interior populace.
It is worth noting that the Co-ordinator Rev Khen P Tombing in his address to His Excellency openly declared that he is representing the hungry masses.
Meanwhile Zomi Artiste Association today handed over 10kg of rice to the Mautam committee in one of the major contribution witness since the district has pledge to take the fight on their own.

CDSU seeks Governor’s intervention
Imphal, Aug 26: Reeling under the Mautaam famine and the destruction of crops by rats and rodents in the Churachandpur district, Churachandpur District Studentsâ Union (CDSU) submitted a representation to the State Governor today to intervene and help solve the problem of the people of the district.
Pointing out that the steps to be taken up by the Government against the increasing number of rats/rodents leading to Mautaam famine in the district was yet to produce any results, the student union requested the Governor to take necessary action.
The student union also disclosed that the Rs. 9.9 crores sanctioned for the control of rodent and the Rs. 16.9 crores by the Central Government for relief were missing and no one knew of their whereabouts.
The Governor of Manipur, Gurbachan Jagat Singh, was on his first visit to the outskirts of Imphal. During his visit, the Governor visited the Khuga Dam which is awaiting inauguration and the district Secretariat.
In the statement, the CDSU also reminded the Governor that an agreement had been signed between the student union and the State Government for setting up examination centre for recruitment exams conducted by SSC and the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC). However, everything has been forgotten and nothing done yet, the statement added.
The student union also suggested that the State Government recommend the construction of FCI godown in the district at the earliest so as to meet the requirements and alleviate poverty of the people.
The CDSU, in this connection, requested Governor Gurbachan Jagat to take further necessary action for the interest of the students and the public grievances affected by the Mautaam in the district.
