IMPHAL, Aug 24 : Reacting swiftly to the official notification issued by the State Government and reportedly published in the Ereibak and the Imphal Free Press dailies on August 24 issue for acquiring land for Imphal airport expansion, the JAC Against the Acquisition of Land for Expansion and Extension of Imphal Airport has called indefinite bandh on Tiddim Road and Mayai Lambi with effect from 6 am tomorrow.
A resolution to this effect was adopted during a joint emergency meeting of the people of Sangaiprou, Malom, Ningombam, Mongsangei and Konjeng Leikai held today under the aegis of the JAC Against Extension.
While strongly condemning the attitude of the State Government to browbeat the people in its attempt to acquire agricultural land and homesteads, the meeting resolved that Tidim Road and Mayai Lambi bandh and general strike in the area will remain in place until and unless the Government retract its alleged false step and come to an agreement with the people, conveyed a press release issued by the JAC.
Appealing to all transporters, both public and private to stay off Tidim Road and Mayai Lambi during the bandh, it cautioned that more intense agitation will be launched in case the Government do not arrange for an agreement inspite of the indefinite bandh.
