Chandel district bandh threat
IMPHAL, Sep 27: Charging the Deputy Commissioner of Chandel with discrimination in distribution of fund under the Backward Region Group Fund, which is also known as District Common Fund, Kuki People’s Front, Chandel has announced its decision of calling a general strike in Chandel district from October 2 to 4 if the district administrator does review the process.
Talking to mediapersons in this connection at Hotel Kristina here today, chairman of the Front Yangkhopao Haokip asserted that the Deputy Commissioner has discriminated the Kuki community of the district in distribution of the fund. Out of Rs 105 lakhs released during 2007-08, not a single paisa had been sanctioned for the development of the areas inhabited by Kuki people.
The Chairman informed that a memorandum had been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner through ADC on August 30 last highlighting this matter and urging for review of the fund distribution process. However till date no response have been received, the Chairman rued.
As a consequence, he informed, a meeting of the Front held today has decided to call a general strike in Chandel district with effect from 6 pm of October 2 to 4 pm of October 4.
While seeking the support of the people to the cause of the Front, the Chairman categorically stated that the Deputy Commissioner should be responsible for any untoward incident that might occur during the strike.
The Front may also be constraint to launch various intense agitation in case the Government fails to come up with a solution to the problem even after the general strike.

IMPHAL, Sep 27: Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) Churachandpur district has conveyed gratitude to 140 Bn BSF for providing computers with peripherals to the people of Churachandpur and also for donating blood for one Chichin Simte who was in dire need of blood transfusion before delivery.
KNO/KLA clarifies
IMPHAL, Sep 27: Clarifying that Ngambom Kuki alias Kenedy Touthang and his accomplice Abung Mei-tei alias Thomas are not au- thorised to issue statement or collect fund from the people in the name of KNO/KLA, C-in-C of the outfit T Stephen Kuki informed that a cabinet meeting of the outfit has authorised MC Dou- ngel as the tactical finance secretary to receive any kind of donation contributed by the people.
Distributors refute
IMPHAL, Sep 27: Refuting the KRA(U) claim that Mai-bam Homendro alias Mo- mocha of Mahaballi Mama-ng Leikai shot dead by a combined force of Imphal West commandos and tro-ops of 16 AR was their ca- dre, the All Manipur Newspaper Sale’s and Distribu- tor’s Association contend-ed that Homendro was a simple newspaper distributor. A press release issued by the Association maintained that the KRA (U) should clearly disclose the time when Homendro joined KRA (U), his army number and other details if their claim is true. It asserted that the KRA (U) should understand the damage done by their claim of Homendro being their cadre while in reality he was not. The association also condemned the alleged act of security forces eliminating apprehended people without bothering to take them to trial. Urging upon the Govt to enquire into the killing of Homendro, it demanded adequate ex-gratia and a Govt job to a member of his family in case he is found innocent failing which further actions will be taken up.
