Kuki chiefs silver jubilee celebrated in Ccpur

M Kaimuanthang, Lamka, Feb 25: If researchers and those of the scholars gave due emphasis on the points where we can stand united and maintain peace and unity apart from doing things in such a way that the Chin-Kuki-MIzo-Zomi groups could be drawn closer and closer, real peace will one day be ushered among us. Moreover, conducting research in the areas where our bygone ties and unity that prevails among our forefathers will cement our unity today, Hangkhanpau said while aadressing a congregation at Sumchinvum village as chief guest.

He was attending the Singngat Areas Kuki Chiefs Assocciation, SKCA, Silver Jubilee celebration held at Sumchinvum today. Mannuamching, SDO Singngat was the guest of honour.

He went on to say that village chiefs are the most important agency for development because it was through them that development works are carried out and implemented.

He said if they have love for their village dwellers and their well being more people will like to live and settle in the village, but if that cannot take place it means they lack something.

Stressing the importance of the chiefs, the guest of honour urged the chiefs not to create disputes over land boundaries of villages while stating that there are many cases of such disputes.

Terming that as the cause for discord and mutual disagreement at the local level, he said it was their duty to maintain their lands and improve them under their care.

Earlier, the chief guest inaugurated the jubilee stone that was followed by a cultural show from Singngat and the village cultural troupes as well choreography dance show at the playground near the hall.

He gave away 15 red blankets to village chiefs donated with Rs. 15,000 to the organisers, Rs. 1000 each to cultural troupes and one team of choreography.

He also released the jubilee souvenir. - IFP
