LB Sona happy with his campaigning results

Lamka, Apr 13: “I have been given an overwhelming support by the electorate for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election. Wherever I go, so far, for vote campaign particularly in Thoubal district, Jiribam, Sadar Hills and Saitu areas, a befitting welcome was given to me by the people.”

This was stated by the MDA common candidate for the II-Outer Manipur seat for the 15th Lok Sabha, LB Sona during a press conference held at his native place in Churachandpur located at Lailam Veng yesterday.

Sona further said that he was sure to get 2.3 lakh votes through his supporting parties (MDA)and may win the election if he got some more votes through his campaign activities that kickstarted from Thoubal district some days ago.

He further said that he would give top priority to better and improved road connectivity in the state.

In this regard, he said the condition of NH-39, NH-53, NH-150 were deteriorating and it was necessary to make improvements adding that he would pressurize the Central government to deploy a PRO for carrying out maintenance and improvement work.

On the issue of Guite Road improvement, he said process was on at the Central government level to hand over maintenance work to the BRO, but so far could not be finalized, while promising to speed up the process.

Like all other candidates, Sona also promised the people to construct inter-district state roads as well as inter-district ring road so as to create an alternative route for passing over unforeseen events like bandhs and blockades while stating further that he would also give special attention to the construction of an international road communication.

On the economic front, he said the people were living in very low economic conditions and as such it was greatly necessary to give special attention to the improvement of trade and commerce. For this, he said the Moreh border trade should be closely supervised in addition to building another border trade centre at Behiang border.

In this connection, he went on to say that GK Pillai, secretary (commerce and industries) had written to the Burmese government twice.

He said he would take steps for the materialization of this programme.

Maintaining that it was necessary to pool more Central funds for development and improvement of the low economic conditions, he said certain development projects were taken up by the state, especially water supply, but from the point of view of its full implementation much was still left to be done.

He also gave his assurance to raise his voice in the House if voted to power for grant of a constitutional safeguard as it is an appropriate forum.

He went on to say that he would fulfill the NCP election manifesto as well as the MDA common minimum programme if voted to power.
