Lamka, May 25: One of the fastest growing townships and the second biggest in the State, Lamka has recorded a significant increase in automobiles in recent days with at least two new or additional motors hitting the streets every passing day. Every alternate day, one of them is a Honda Activa.
Ever since assigning MN 02 to the district in 1989, 9802 vehicles have been registered by DTO/CCpur, 624 of them last year. The vehicles registered here however gain a never before witness thrust this year as more than 295 were registered during the past 145 days, it means two new entries ever day. The new vehicles hitting the street were mostly two wheelers, yet heavy earth moving machines such as JCBs and bulldozers also make their presence felt in their midst. Of the 160-plus two wheelers registered this year, Honda Activa clearly top the favourite as it adds to a staggering 96 (32%).
The next best favourite is Bajaj Pulsar with 15. Four wheelers including Maruti cars, Sumos, luxury cars and SUVs marked 52 new entries with Maruti Alto as the favourite. Within the same period, a revenue of Rs 2,16,011 have been amassed by the department with Rs 9,850 from various penalty heads. The advancement com-es not without its share of annoyance, as the unruly streets were now choked with motors and the atmosphere polluted by their unending blare of honks and burning fuel. Akin to the rise in motors the number of motor vehicle accidents was also in the rise, and the later sometimes seems to even out number the former. Despite the rise in motors on the streets, the public transport remains a misery as always, as a chunk of these motors were for personal use. The trend either indicates that individuals have outgrown the society or disparity among the people makes an ugly twist.
