IMPHAL, May 27:Strongly protesting against the failure of the Govt to provide compensation to the five persons who went blind after undergoing a free cataract operation at Bishenpur on on February 23, 2007, the affected family members have submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister warning that if the compensation is not paid soon, an indefinite bandh will be imposed on Tiddim line and NH-150 from June 2. The five persons were blinded during a free eye camp conducted by the District Blindness Control Society, Bishnupur, said the memorandum which was submitted to the Chief Minister yesterday.

Bandh on Imphal-Moreh route
MOREH, May 27: Indefinite bandh was imposed along the Imphal-Moreh route effective from this evening 6 pm against the suspension of services of transporters on this route.
The bandh has been called jointly by three bodies, the Meitei Council Moreh, MCM, Kha-Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup and AMSU, Chandel branch to register a protest against the failure to take up works by the concerned authorities and to resume the services of the transporters within the given time.
The transporters have suspended the services owing to the unbearable extortion demands served on them by some hill based militant groups.
On the other hand, the MCM general secretary today appealed for arrangements for PDS items to the people suffering from the suspension of services by the FCS.

KYKL warns against corruption in MPSC recruitments

IMPHAL, May 27: Operation New Kangleipak of the KYKL is viewing the process for recruitment for 206 through the Manipur Public Service Commission, MPSC following a Cabinet decision in October 2006, a statement of the outfit said.
If any of the concerned members of the selection committee and candidates happen to do corruption by taking bribes or giving bribe money, ONK will not take it lightly and deal them hard punishment, it warned.
Amidst the ONK drive against corruption and irregularity in the education sector, if any of them repeated corrupt practices despite giving of punishments like shooting at the leg, it was sure to kill them one day, it said.
The outfit is not giving capital punishment to any person who were charged of corruption considering for their families even they were worthy of awarding capital punishment it say if happen to cross the limit, some may befell into the jaw of dead.
ONK is well known that corruption prevail anywhere but there is no rule that if they do we also do it, it said.
It is the suppress of rights of candidates when one of them was selected on corruption basis. Doing crime is like initiating fight.
There is no stance on the outfit side to forgive always when urged for forgive after one’s mistake was exposed. So before committing any wrong all concerned need to think themselves and avoid committing mistake, it say.
If ONK came to know any of the candidate getting appointment through corrupt practice, it will taken steps not to pay his or her salaries or taken out from the job, it warned.
Even after the selection process for the recruitment completed, the outfit will collect all the related documents and investigate into the matter, it said.
Giving reasons for taking special attention to the selection process, the statement said that due to irregularities and corrupt practices, many qualified candidates from the poor section who could not afford bribe money and have no good relation with the concern higher officials could not get the job which in turn no quality education can be provided by the government run schools and colleges.
The only way to save the degrading government institute is to check corrupt practices in the selection of teachers which can impart eduction suited with the new course and subject concern, it said.

NIOS not equivalent to Class-X pass certificate, says home dept

IMPHAL, May 27: Matriculation certificates of the National Open School issued after October 21, 2003 are not to be treated as equivalent to Class-X of the Manipur Board of Secondary Education, Manipur, said the state home department while considering a case for appointment of a candidate who passed the minimum qualifying standard under NIOS as civil constable in the police department.
The case was related with a proposal of the police department for consideration of the appointment of one Th Rocky Singh whose father served as sub-inspector (radio technician) in the department and expired.
In reply to the proposal, the home department stated that the case for appointment of Rocky as constable on the strength of the certificate of passing the secondary school through open school had been examined and as he passed the examimation in April 2001 the case could be considered for the job.
It further asked the police department to forward the proposal if he be considered eligible.
The home department took the decision in the case on the strength of a communiqué received from the state education department to the special secretary home on May 25, 2005 which stated that the board had withdrawn the equivalence of secondary school (Class-X) certificate issued by NIOS/NOS by an order issued on September 15, 2003.
The order declared that students having acquired Class-X certificate from NIOS education system were not eligible for admission to Class-XI in higher secondary schools recognized by the council.
The notification further clarified that the certificate issued by NIOS after September 2003 would not be treated as valid for the purpose admission to higher classes in Manipur. However, their validity for the purpose of employment in government jobs may be determined according to the relevant recruitment rules and the equivalence granted by the board.
