Indefinite Cdl bandh on the card

IMPHAL, Oct 20 : Along with formation of a Joint Action Committee (JAC), a joint meeting of the leaders of Chothe, Lamkang, Kuki, Zou communities of 41- Chandel A/C and certain parts of 42-Tengnoupal A/C held at Manipur Press Club here today has decided to call an indefinite bandh in Chandel district from October 22 demanding correction of the alleged faulty draft report of the District Council Delimitation Commission.

Talking to mediapersons after the meeting, advisor of Chothe Tribe Union MK Thomas Chothe said that the draft report of the Delimitation Commission with regard to Chandel district, the notification of which was published on September 23 was not in the interest of the minor tribe communities. Instead of accommodating villages of the minor tribes fully, delimitation of the Constituency has segregated the villages, Thomas contended.

He further pointed out that in the re-arrangement of the Constituencies, some of the villages which should be included have been skipped while some others which should not be included have been accommodated.

The matter had already been highlighted to the Government and other related agencies, but so far no positive response have been received, thus compelling to take the decision of calling an indefinite bandh in Chandel district from October 22, he explained.

IMPHAL, Oct 20: The JAC on ADC Delimitation Process Chandel 41 A/C and Part of 42 Tengnoupal A/C has threatened to call an indefinite bandh along the National Highway-39 and Chandel district from the morning of October 22 if the concerned authorities fail to accommodate the DCC seats for all tribes after rectifying the recent notification issued by the chairman, Delimitation District Council on September 23 last.

Mentioning this, MK Thomas Chothe, chairman of the JAC and advisor of Chothe Tribes Union, Manipur during a press conference held this afternoon said the decision of calling the indefinite bandh was taken during the joint meeting held today at Manipur Press Club attended by social workers, political delegates and different tribe leaders of Chandel district.

He further said that during the joint meeting many tribe leaders expressed their dissatisfaction with the recent notification of the chairman of the District Council Delimitation Committee and further resolved to demand immediate modification of draft notification of the chairman, DCDC issued on September 23 last according to the genuine needs of the aggrieved communities such as Kukis, Chothe, Lamkang, Zou, and other minority tribes before the committee submit its faulty and partial reports for approval to the concerned government authority by tomorrow.

The JAC chairman further mentioned that it was very unfortunate that the recent draft reflected a kind of injustice among the tribes in the district, particularly the Anal tribe which constitutes only 30 percent of voters and is being accommodated in 40 percent seats of DCC in 41/Chandel A/C, namely in 12 Chandel District HQ, 13 Vomku, 19 Chakpikarong, 20 Wankhera, 21 Toupokpi, and certain tribes like Chothe, Moyon, Monsang and Zou are not accommodated there due share of constituencies.

Moreover, the Lamkang with about 6000 voters or 15 percent of the total votes and the Kukis having the maximum voters percentage should get only one and three seats respectively, he said. Concerning all these issues the joint meeting has decided to resume indefinite bandh along National Highway-39 and Chandel district from October 22 if their demands are not fulfilled by tomorrow, he added.
