Manipur offices shifted for Ibobi’s security
IMPHAL, Jan 7 – For providing fool-proof security to Manipur Chief Minister, the State authority has directed the shifting of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations office complex with immediate effect in order to house CISF’s commando unit – Special Security Guards (SSG).
“We are going to shift out the office in view of the CMs security”, said an officer of the DIPR here. The move has been taken in view of the frequent grenade attacks by insurgents at the official bunglow complex of the state Chief Minister O Ibobi.
Besides Union Home Minister P Chidambaram during his January 2 trip to Guwahati had already pronounced the plan to set up NSG hubs at all State capitals of the country to control terror.
Manipur Government recently proposed NSG cover for CM’s security. Meanwhile, a source said that beginning mid-February, SSG will be in charge of Chief Minister’s security replacing the Manipur Rifles personnel. The new arrangement has been made considering the reported threats to the Chief Minister from insurgent groups and attacks on the Chief Minister’s complex.
Accepting the State Government’s proposal to provide SSG commandos as security guards to the Chief Minister, one CISF Inspector had visited Imphal and worked out the necessary arrangement. The State Government has also proposed to the Centre to provide SSG security for the Governor.
A security committee headed by a senior police officer has also recommended to shift, three other government offices – Treasury, State Library and Social Welfare, bordering with Raj Bhavan, to some other locations.
