IMPHAL, Jan 8: The 765th Bn of the Border Road Task Force (BRTF) has been raised in Churachandpur a few weeks back. The new battalion will mainly concentrate on developing the 162 kms long stretch of NH-150 from Churachandpur to Aizawl via Tipaimukh. However, 25 BRTF has so far constructed 60 kms of the highway along the hilly terrain.
Talking to this reporter, 25 BRTF Commandant BP Mishra said that office building of the newly set up BRTF unit will be built at Churachandpur district Hqs soon. At present, Commandant of the unit (765 BRTF) PN Yadav and his subordinate officers and staff have been putting up at 80 RCC office at Churachandpur, BP Mishra informed.
Besides taking care of maintaining major portions of NH 53 and NH 150 and some important border roads, 25 BRTF is also maintaining a 160 kms long highway in Myanmar. Regarding the State Government’s initiative to hand over maintenance of some sections of NH 39, BP Mishra disclosed that the State Government has not yet handed over the development/maintenance work of the highway to BRTF officially.
Saying that the BRTF is ready to take over the development work of NH 39 from Imphal to Maram, the Commandant said that the necessary manpower and machinery are also available. Even though the State Government is yet to hand over the highway portion to BRTF, they have already conducted a survey along the route.
Moreover, BRTF has also conducted another survey for construction of a road from Moreh town to New Somtal along the international boundary with Myanmar. A team of 25 BRTF is now stationed in Myanmar looking after the 160 kms long highway between Tamu and Kalemiyo which it constructed in late nineties, said BP Mishra.
