Loli Adani officially named BJP candidate in Outer Manipur

IMPHAL, Mar 24 : With the BJP National leaders giving their stamp of approval to the recommendations of the State party unit, Loli Adani who contested in the last Lok Sabha election from the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency as a BJP candidate has been announced as the official party candidate for the Outer Parliamentary Constituency this time as well. The announcement was made during a function attended by party’s North East in-charge organisation se-cretary Chandrasekhar Rao and many veteran party leaders at the Nityapat Chuthek office of the BJP Manipur Pradesh here today.

Speaking at the occasion, Loli Adani pledged to work for restoration of peace and promotion of emotional integration among the people of the State.

Noting that peace is the over riding need in Manipur today, Adani said that in this connection he would try to bring about changes in the existing developmental poli-cies and programmes so as to bridge the developmental gap between the hill and the valley area of the State.

Over and above this, Adani said he would work towards strengthening emotional integration among the people and ushering in overall development of the State.

Earlier, announcing Loli Adani as the official candidate of BJP from the Outer Parliamentary Constituency, Chandrasekhar expressed confidence that the party candidates would merge triumphant in both the Inner and Outer seats.

Chandrasekhar said that MP Mani Charenamei who is posed to be the nearest rival of the BJP in the Outer Parliamentary Constituency, though not a Congress nominee, is someone who is close to Congress and has been fielded after a lobby within the Congress.

However, he had not taken up any developmental works during his term as the elected MP, Chandrasekhar charged.

Launching an attack on the Congress party, the BJP leader said that the ruling Congress led SPF Government in Manipur is anti-people.

The most glaring testimony of this fact is that the Govt has been indirectly suppor-ting some of the UG groups which have entered ceasefire agreement with it by clo- sing its eyes to the atrocities being committed on the people by the armed cadres of these UG groups. More-over, with the State police forces relentlessly killing innocent people, the Cong- ress party is today akin to a terrorist group, Chandra-sekhar further charged.

Stating that BJP would emerge triumphant getting the highest number of votes in the election to the Outer as well as Inner Parliamentary Constituency, he also appealed to the people to vote for BJP in the interest of bringing about develop-mental change in the State.

As part of the election campaign, member of the National Executive and convenor of Foreign Affairs Cell of the BJP Minority Morcha Nawab Saleem Khan would be arriving at Imphal on a three-day visit and would visit areas inhabited by minority people to understanding their problems.

State Unit party president Dr Haobam Borbabu who was also present reiterated that in the election to the Outer and Inner Parliamentary Constituency on April 16 and April 22 respectively BJP would put up strong fight against the Congress and CPI candidates and defeat them.

Former Chief Minister and veteran party leader RK Dorendra and former Chief Minister W Nipamacha who is going contest from the Inner Parliamentary Constituency as party candidate were also present at the occasion.

MPP casts a slur on Meinya’s nomination

IMPHAL, Mar 24 : Asserting that MP Meinya did not utter a single word when another MP from the State spoke for disintegration of Manipur on the floor of the Parliament, MPP leaders have questioned the undisclosed faith of AICC high command in Dr Mienya to nominate him again as their Lok Sabha candidate.

Speaking to media persons at the MPP office here today, Legislature Wing leader of the party O Joy said that he was surprised on hearing that Congress ticket has been given to Meinya.

On July 22, 2008, while taking the vote of confidence for the UPA Government, Outer MP Mani Charenamei voted in favour of the UPA Government stating that the UPA leaders assured him to change their common minimum programme and that the territorial boundary of the North East would be re-examined.

To this, Inner MP Dr Meinya did not react, Joy asserted while questioning the faith of AICC high command in Dr Mienya. Joy also asked if there was any hidden agenda behind nominating Dr Meinya for the second time.

At the time of Assembly elections in Nagaland, there were some points in the Congress manifesto which posed threat to the territorial integrity of Manipur. MPP raised the matter in the State Assembly and sought omission of these points. But this motion was opposed by the ruling parties-Congress and CPI, Joy reminded.

The MPP leader further observed that Manipur is facing drought as most of the rivers have dried up. He also accused the incumbent Government’s alleged misplaced policy for the inability to provide water to the public by using the barrage built in Imphal river.

MPP president Dr L Chandramani remarked that the recent abolition of a non-Congress Government in Meghalaya and imposition of President’s Rule in the State was nothing but the Congress party demeaning democracy.

The Governor interfering in the work of the Speaker and recommending PR and subsequent imposition of PR by the UPA Government was against rules, alleged Chandramani saying that the MPP condemned the manoeuvre. He also demanded that the popular ministry should be restored in Meghalaya.

MPP has been campaig-ning since the Assembly elections of 2007 to repeal the draconian AFSPA from Manipur. However, the two MPs from Manipur did not speak a single word in the Parliament towards this end, Chandramani noted. This time people need to study all these points, he said adding that the incident of Manorama should not be lost from the minds of the people.

MPP candidate Prof N Mohendro said that the upcoming Parliamentary election is not an ordinary one but the beginning of a turning point.

The primary duties of an MP is not construction of community halls or crematoriums. An MP should work to extract maximum from the Union lists in order to bring development in the State.

Prof Mohendro said that he would fight in the Parliament against the violence and harassments being suffered by the people of Manipur.

MLA RK Anand alleged that Dr Meinya has been given Congress ticket for raising no objection to the demand for Naga integration.

He further exuded that MPP can bring about a revolution in Manipur if their candidate is elected.
