United People Front urges the government of Manipur

IMPHAL, Mar 4 : While urging the Government to hold back its decision concerning setting up of the designated camp at Lajangphai, United Peoples’ Front (UPF), an apex body of a group of Kuki UG outfits which have signed Suspension of Operation (SoO) with the Government has categorically stated that the UPF leaders would be taking a final decision in this regard very soon.

In a statement, information and publicity secretary of UPF SN Thadou asserted that decision of the Government seems to favour one organisation and closing its eyes to another organisation.

Calling upon the Government or its authorities concerned to conduct a spot inquiry in case of any doubt on the strength of the cadres, UPF has also urged for releasing the sanct-ioned stipend amount to be given to the UPF cadres after an appro-priate decision of the UPF leaders.

UPF has also condemned killing of Non-Manipur and asked the UG group or gang concerned not to repeat such barbaric act in the future. The Front has also appealed to all the people for restoration of peaceful coexis-tence and develo-pment in the State.

EC rolls to dictate LS voters

IMPHAL, Mar 3 : Casting of votes in the ensuing Lok Sabha election scheduled to be held in two phases in the State on April 16 and 22 would be based mainly on the Photo Electoral Rolls.
According to an official source from the State Election Department, necessary preparation for using Photo Electoral Rolls in the ensuing two-phased Lok Sabha election in the State in all the nine districts have been made.

Out of the total 2,91,812 voters in Imphal East, preparation of 77.87 percent of the Photo Electoral Rolls have been completed. Likewise, out of the total 3,22,550 voters in Imphal West, preparation of 78.76 percent of the Photo Electoral Rolls has been completed, in Bishnupur out of the total 1,57,441 voters preparation 84.05 percent of the Photo Electoral Rolls has been completed, in Thoubal district which has a total number of 2,64,832 voters, 84.85 percent has been completed, in Chandel which has a total number of 91,405 voters, 73.99 percent has been completed, in Ukhrul which has a total number of 1,00,994 voters, 59.41 percent has been completed, in Senapati district which has a total number of 2,44,383 voters, 81.47 percent has been completed, in Tamenglong which has a total number of 78,126, 85.37 percent has been completed and in Churachandpur district which has a total number of 1,75,696 voters, preparation of 59.74 percent of the Photo Electoral Rolls has been completed, the source informed.

On the other hand, in connection with the election, Chief Electoral Officer has convened a joint meeting with the DCs and SPs of all the districts at 10 am of March 7 as well as at 2.30 pm of the same day with the Political Parties.
