Mizoram CM optimistic about border trade

AIZAWL, April 21 – Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla yesterday expressed optimism that Indo-Bangladesh border trade at the proposed trade centre in Mizoram’s Tlabung would soon materialise. Addressing the meeting of the State Planning Board, its chairman Lal Thanhawla expressed the hope that border trade with Bangladesh would soon become a reality and it would benefit the people of Mizoram.

He also said that village registration would be introduced to identify bonafide residents of the State and also the floating population working in the State from neighbouring countries and States.

The Chief Minister, while outlining the proposals for uplift of the poor and marginal farmers said that New Land Use Policy (NLUP) would be revived with multi-pronged strategy including selection of crops and marketing feasibilities.

He said that while educated unemployed youths would also be targetted in the implementation of the NLUP, the education policy would also be channelised towards job-oriented courses.

Urging the officials to ensure correct statistics while formulating plans with visions, he said that rampant corruption in implementation of the NREGS sould be tackled so that the target families would harvest the benefits. – PTI
