Nagaland CM Rio is now ‘Warrior’ of Nagaland

Mezoma, April 20 (MExN): Referring to what our forefathers called a man with special skills in the field of battle – Great Warrior – the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu-u Rio, was traditionally anointed as ‘Warrior’ of Nagaland by the Mezoma community. Rio was given this honour during the 23rd biennial general conference of the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) held from April 17 to 19 last, here at Mezoma Village.

Describing Rio politically as the father of Nagaland, the organising committee stated that the CM looked after the affairs of the state despite facing many hardships and difficulties; thereby he can be rightly termed as the warrior of the State, they asserted. The Chief Minister was gifted with significant warrior’s gear – the Spear, to fight enemies and hunt wild animals; the Shield, to protect oneself from the enemies’ spears; the Dao, to be utilised for necessary needs, and a gear head, a symbolic crown of honour, etc.

According to Mezoma tradition, the person who usually put on this attire was someone who had been given the prestigious title of ‘Warrior’. Stating that Rio, being the guardian of the State, was eligible to put on the traditional warrior attire, the committee declared him ‘Warrior’ of Nagaland and wished him prosperity and success in all his upcoming endeavours while dealing with affairs of the State. As you have put on the traditional warrior attire, from now on you will be called the Warrior of the Nagas, declared the organising committee.

Rongmei Mothers vow to fight till justice is done

Dimapur, April 20 (MExN): The Rongmei Pui (Mothers) Organisation, Peren district, and Women Integrated-Action for Development and Empowerment Network, Northeast (WIDEN–Northeast) has sought justice for Northeasterners in Delhi and other parts of India. Taking a serious view over the rape of the 5 year old girl child of a Naga family in Delhi on April 17, 2009, the RPO Peren district and WIDEN-Northeast expressed its “tantrum anger and deep sorrow over the bestial act of raping an innocent child”.

Achingpei Gangmei, president of RPO/WIDEN-Northeast expressed that the scene of brutal rape of Gaipuilu Gangmei is unthinkable for mothers to tolerate and be silent spectators. “Mothers will continue to cry till justice for women is made,” Achingpei Gangmei stated in a press note.

The brutal rape of the child is the direct challenge and discrimination against all mothers and Northeasterners in particulars, the note stated, while demanding that the concerned government execute the law befitting for such a crime against women. “No words of condemnation, no reason of whatsoever can suffice and appease the anger of mothers. No compensation ever so high can dry the tears of mothers over the loss of her child in such a manner,” the organisation stated.

The centre should know the fact and feel the pain that raping of the child is the crime directly committed against women not just the person, the RPO/WIDEN-Northeast added, while demanding that justice for women be delivered by penalising the rape culprit “with the strictest and most permanent manner of finding solution to the case”. The organisation also suggested that the person be excommunicated and banished “from the human society for his life time” which would not only solve but also prevent further crimes such as this.

The RPO/WIDEN-Northeast also expressed a “deep sense of pain” at the loss for the bereaved parents and relatives, adding that “no words of condemnation, no reason whatsoever can suffice and appease the anger of mothers. No compensation ever so high can dry the tears of mothers over the loss of her child in such a manner.”
The organisation also acknowledged all concerned Naga organisations who voiced their concerns over the rape case in Delhi. “We shall all join our hands and hearts in fighting against all form of discriminations against women and child. We will fight till justice is done to us and that women are made safe anywhere any place like men,” the RPO/WIDEN-Northeast added.
