A North East Woman Abused. Husband Threaten to Ride Over by Motor Cycle

On November 22, at zero hour of the night, a government employed from Manipur rang up to NE Support Centre & Helpline that a group of young people in Murnika, South Delhi, were abusing his wife and uttered abusing remarks on her. In defending of his wife, when he told the young people to stop abusing his wife, they threaten him to ride over by motor cycles.

NE Helpline rang up to Police Helpline number 100 and the matter was reported. Meanwhile the victim also informed to Police Helpline. The Police escort arrived 30 minutes late, by the time, the youngsters fled from the sport.

The statement from the victims were recorded with the motor cycle numbers were also reported to police for further action. Until the filing of the report, police have not apprehended any of the abusers.

The unreported stories of racial discrimination to the people belonging to North East India have been revealed while talking to numbers of individuals living in Delhi and NCR.

"My friends from Nagaland, having searching NE Support Centre & Helpline numbers to report about how they were suspended from a call centre in Delhi and their salary have been withheld with reasons be told," girl told to NE Support Centre & Helpline.

The discriminations faced by North East people in Delhi vary from one to another. Few among them are eve teasing and abusive remarks to North East girls and suspension and withheld or delay of salary by private company employers.

Due to the lack of people to help in the time of crisis, most young boys and girls from North East India suffer silently. They face more injustice when their complaints are refused by police duty officers.

NE Support Centre & Helpline suggests calling up police helpline 100 in the time of crisis, if possible from victims own telephone or mobile number and informing police helpline the nature of harassment clearly with clear cut address of the locality where crime takes place. NE Support Centre & Helpline may also be contacted for further follow up.

For the suspension from job, none payment of salary without proper reasons or other related cases may be intimated to NE Support Centre & Helpline in written by hand, post or fax.

The incidents of abuses, harassment and racial discrimination taking into documentation are very important for the purpose of sensitizing to the government and police. Registering cases in police station is very essential to bring sensitization in order to prevent and reduce harassment, abuses and racial discrimination.
