Kangpokpi in disarray

By Our Staff Reporter

IMPHAL, Jun 7: With irre-gularity in the attendance of the Government employees in various offices under Kangpokpi Town area, the pace of developmental acti-vities has been greatly ham- pered, convenor of Plan-ning and Development of Kangpokpi Town Commit-tee Angam Thanga has stated.

Talking to mediapersons today, Angam informed that during the course of inspecting Government offices, Town Committee members detected that most of the employees do not report for duties.

Stating that people of Kangpokpi have been fac-ing lot of inconveniences as doctors in the Kangpokpi Community Health Centre have been irregular in their attendance, Angam informed that while one doctor out of the seven posted at the Health Centre is looking after the OPD, there is no one to take care of the patients admitted.

Even as the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in-charge of the health centre has been coming to attend to his office only once a week, the District Immunisation Officer has not been attending to his duties for the last two years, Angam disclosed, adding that in absence of the District Immunisation Officer, a nurse and an ANM have been virtually running the office.

Angam further conveyed that it is almost five days now that the office of the Forest Department at Kangpokpi has not been functioning. As none of the staff have been coming to the office, it has become a haven for boozers.

The higher authorities have also not paid any heed to the complaint lodged in this regard, he lamented.

The condition is no better in case of the Veterinary office at Kangpokpi as there is only one attendant and a chowkidar to run the office, Angam said, ruing that the demand for shifting of the Sadar Hills PWD Division from Lamphelpat to Kangpokpi being raised to the Minister concerned from time to time for more than 10 years now has not been considered by the Government till date.

Demanding the Government to look into these infrastructural requirements and pay special attention to the development of the area, Angam warned of launching various intense agitations including imposition of economic blockade if the Government fails to do the needful at the earliest possible.
