421 Manipur ultras killed since 2004

SOBHAPATI SAMOM | IMPHAL, March 14 – The Assam Rifles has claimed to have eliminated 421 militants and apprehended 1,808 besides capturing a huge quantity of arms and ammunition in the last five years of counter-insurgency operations in Manipur. PRO Assam Rifles claimed this in a press statement released on the eve of the 6th raising day of Assam Rifles (South) office. Major General AK Choudhary who is present IG of Assam Rifles while speaking on the occasion here emphasized on conduct of people- friendly operations and promoting of multi-faceted developmental programmes.

He said the troops would continue to be proactive in operation against the terrorists who are an impediment for development in Manipur.

“Headquarter IGAR (South) has achieved incredible success in combating insurgency and creating conducive environment for development and prosperity in Manipur”, the statement said.

In the course of it’s operations, 36 militants also surrendered to the Assam Rifles.

It has actively involved itself in checking anti-social activities like smuggling of drugs, illicit liquor, arms and ammunition.

The Assam Rifles has so far seized around 42.5 tonnes of contraband Ganja, 170 trucks of timber and 51,794 litres of illicit liquor, it said.

Eviction of militants from the so called “Liberated Zone” under it’s Operation Samtal was one of the biggest achievement of Assam Rifles troops.

As a due recognition of the efforts in achieving these feats, IGAR (South) and the units under command have earned awards for 227 Officers, 105 JCOs, 356 other ranks and nine civilian staff.
