Lamka, Aug 5: Guess which minister of the state has spent the longest time in the district hospital in a bid to get detail information of the requirements of the hospital and for that matter even entered the dirty toilets, something which was never before done by others, not even the top officials of the hospital.

He is none other than the state health minister Ph Parijat Singh who paid his maiden visit after shouldering the responsibility of the department. He spent over 3 hours time in the hospital as he visited and collected information on the hospital`s requirement on saturday.

On the occasion he personally supervised the operation theatre, blood bank, CT scan, surgical ward, maternity ward apart from many other departments in the hospitals which are all in a hopeless condition and are no more in tune with the modern world.

The district hospital was established way back in the year 1968 and most of its buildings remain in a bad condition.

The superintendent of the hospital who closely followed the visiting minister gave all necessary information on the requirements of the hospital.

While going around some wards he asked the patients whether they got proper medical supply, good diet while staying in the hospital, supply of mosquito nets and bedding as well as clean bed sheets, to which most of the patients replied in the negative. The patients said they had to purchase even cotton what to speak of other things.

The minister was accompanied by MTDC chairman T Manga Vaiphei MLA and Tuanzalian CPI president of the state.

He also visited the FHW/ANM training centre where 39 girls are undergoing training.

Here he was apprised of the problems faced by the students and the demands raised by them included supply of solar energy and one warden.

He assured them he would try to provide the needs of the trainees as soon as possible.

Later, he briefed the media at the OPB hall. He said Churachandpur is a growing town with high rate of population growth making it necessary to set up good and dependable hospitals.

He further said that he would try his best to provide CT scan but at the same time added that he was told by the superintendent that due to irregularity of power supply the machine could not be installed.

In this regard he said now there was proper electricity supply and installation may be possible.

Stating that the hospitals constructed in the year 1968 had by now many things to be improved, he said the building construction in the campus will completed within 6 months time.

The hospital will be upgraded into a 200 bedded one soon and will be looked after according to modern standards, and all this would be done during his tenure, he said.

The insufficient staff of the hopital will be done away with by appointing more staff, he went on to say.
