CDSU objects MLAs’ free hand in PDS
Lamka, Apr 5: The Churachandpur District Students’ Union today voiced their strong objection over the alleged April 3 order of the FCS which guarantees the MLAs and their nominees, among others, a free hand over PDS supply in their respective ACs.
In a memoranda presented to the Chief Minister today, the union said that the official order issued by the FCS Commissioner on April 3 which basically authorized MLAs and their nominees to issue PDS items to all FPS units under their constituencies was a ‘tried, tested and failed’ practice which resulted in complete malfunctioning of PDS system in the state.
The order also contradicted the steps taken up to ensure food grain supply to famine affected areas where NREGS is being implemented under the order issued by commissioner (RD&PR) Government of Manipur on March 13, it went on. Terming the FCS commissioner LP Gonmei’s order – that suppresses all previous orders issued in regard to PDS and authorised MLAs to sign and deposit the cost and subsequently issue PDS permits to their agents/nominees - as ‘nothing but a blatant attempt to loot public property,’ the memorandum appealed to the Chief Minister to immediately cancel the order or exempt Churachandpur from the purview.
The CDSU also made it known to the Chief Minister its determination to fight against the order, which it says is ‘anti-people and anti-poor’ at any cost.
Meanwhile, the Joint Women Organisation Churachandpur under the initiative of Zomi Mothers’ Association will be organising a protest rally on April 8 to file their dissent over the recent spate of violence against women and girl child.
The rally is to commence from Lamka public ground at 9 am and conclude at DC/CCpur office after presentation of memorandum.

Lamka, Apr 5: For the first time in Churachandpur, the district administration exploited the provisions of ‘social audit’ today to settle a squabble that surfaces during the course of executing NREGS at Zenhang Lamka.
The typical approach was roped in as a large number of the Job Card holders made it known their annoyance over the handling of NREGS by their village authority. The card holders were allegedly skeptical of the sluggish approach opted by the village authority as they were awarded a mere 14 days of works even at the end of this fiscal.
However, the ‘social audit’ today cleared that skepticism as members of the village authority responded to all the queries put forward by the villagers. During the course of the audit it was established that a mere fourteen days of work has been allotted to the card holders in the first and second phase as against the twenty five days approved by the district administration.
With the entire amount allotted to Zenhang Lamka now revealed to the mass during the audit, the Village Authority has vowed to dessiminate the remaining works to the people beginning Monday.
The district administration has also warned the VA of severe consequences including filing of a criminal case and blacklisting the village.
Despite the competence and effectiveness of the district administration in implementing the centrally sponsored scheme, failure on the part of the village chief and VAs has been impairing the scheme and impeding its implementation.
In a bid to avoid any further recurrence of the impasse such as that happened in Zenhang Lamka, and unwilling to take any chances further, Deputy Commissioner Sumant Singh has immediately lined-up various initiatives to sensitize the general public.
An aggressive awareness campaign through the media and village level public meetings, establishment of a fast track grievance redressing cell, introduction of complaint box and shelving of additional allotment for ‘black sheep’ were some of the steps the DC mooted.
Churachandpur being one of the badly affected district by Mautaam famine, and acknowledging its effective- ness in implementing the NREGS, a massive Rs 34 crore of NREGS fund was awarded to the district during the last fiscal.
Of the ten TD blocks in the district, full 100 days of job, has been allotted to three blocks severely affected by Mautaam while 65 days and 50 days of job have been awarded in two partially affected blocks and the remaining fiver other blocks respectively during the same period.
Taxi service suspended

IMPHAL, Apr 5: An emergency meeting of the two associations (old and new) of Tata Sumo owners doing taxi service along Imphal-Moreh route has decided to suspend taxi service along the route indefinitely with effect from today.
A press release issued by the Moreh-Imphal Jeep and Tata Sumo Taxi Service Welfare Association infor-med that decision to sus- pend the passenger/goods taxi service was adopted because of huge monetary demands from many banned underground groups.
The emergency meeting held at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound today also re-solved to appeal to all the armed groups operating in both the hills and valley to withdraw the monetary demands, it conveyed.
Meanwhile, all the vehi-cles plying along Imphal- Moreh route under the Indo-Burma Self-Employed Van Association have also decided to suspend service along the route with effect from tomorrow.
Truck vanishes, driver found dead: A truck carrying rice for FCI from Dimapur to Imphal has mysteriously vanished after crossing Sekmai check post.
However, the driver of the truck was found hung to death this morning.
The truck crossed Sek-mai check post on March 30 but vanished on the road to Imphal.
The deceased driver is identified as Nameirakpam Inao (40) s/o Achou of Sagolband Khamnam Leirak.
He was found hung to death from a neem tree growing not far away from his home. The rice laden truck still remains untraced.
