Aizawl, April 28(PTI): Leaders of Shavei Israel Organisation, which facilitated migration of more than 1,000 Mizo Jews to Israel, today said the number of tourists from Israel would multiply this year. They met Mizoram Tourism Minister S Hiato on Saturday night and expressed optimism that tourists from Israel visiting Mizoram would increase this year.
The Minister assured all possible help for the Israeli tourists. The Israeli delegation comprised of founder chairman of Shavei Israel Organisation, Michael Freund, Ha Rab Eliyahu, Birnbaum Rabi and Tzvi Khaute, Coordinator - Bnei Menashe Department.
The Israeli leaders thanked the government and the people of Mizoram for allowing Jewish believers to practice the religion in the state.
Hiato proposed that Israel being the holy land for the Christians, pilgrimage to that country from this tiny Christian-dominated state and cultural exchange programmes between Israel and Mizoram should be jointly organised.
Some Mizos who called themselves Bnei Menashe believed that they are the lost tribe of Israel which was corroborated by Zaithanchhungi, a researcher&aposs findings.
