Dimapur | April 24: It is already an establish fact that the northeast region is a major source of trafficking of women, especially minor girls to mainland India. The recent escape of two minor Adivasi girls of Dimapur from the national capital has proved that trafficking of women from the northeast is turning out to be a big challenge not only to the police but citizens as well.

It was found that most of the victims, belonging to poor families, are brought to Delhi or some other metro on the pretext of providing them with better jobs. It was found that two minor girls of 14 and 15 years, had gone to Delhi a month back on the pretext of being imparted training on “tailoring/embroidery”. Lured by the offer, the victims accompanied trafficking agents, who sold them off to brothel owners.

According to the FIR lodged by the father of the victims, “one month back two persons namely Zakhir Hussain and Harjod Ali took away his daughter of 14 years and her friend, who is 15 years from Dimapur, to Delhi on the pretext of imparting training on tailoring/embroidery.”

On arrival at Old Delhi, they stayed at one Anwar’s house for a week. One day Anwar took one of the girls to an unknown place and raped her in a room. The same evening his two friends also came, where they took turns in raping her. The next day, Anwar took the girl to a different house and left her; there too, she was raped by the house owner, the FIR said. “The next morning, Anwar took her back and sold her off to a brothel to work as a prostitute, where she has been forcefully raped by different persons at different occasions, where altogether twelve persons raped her,” the FIR stated.

The FIR also ascertained that her friend was also sold off to another brothel by Anwar’s brother namely one Basa Ali. After two days, Basa Ali took the girl’s friend to a park where two Delhi Police personnel in civic was seen in a police vehicle. She was forcibly made to sit in the vehicle by Basa Ali.

The two policemen took her to an unknown place and raped her turn by turn, while Basa Ali waited outside. “So, after much struggle, they (victims) managed to escape from their clutches and came back to Dimapur on April 18 last” the FIR said.

In the FIR, the father of the victim has requested the police to initiate necessary legal action against the culprits who are responsible for exploiting the life of his minor daughter and her friend. Police informed that the culprits Zakhir Hussain and Harjod Ali are still absconding. However, the police said that a team of Dimapur police will leave for Delhi shortly to take action against Anwar and Basa Ali and also pursue the matter against the two Delhi police personnel.
