By Our Staff Reporter

IMPHAL, Mar 5: In case the development work of the IT road is not completed by March 31, befitting actions will be taken up against the concerned contractors, said Works Minister K Ranjit in the State Assembly today.

The development work of the IT road was allotted to 12 contractors. Since the development work commen- ced in 2006-07, a total of Rs 537.61 lakhs have been spent so far, he informed the House in response to a query of MLA K Raina during question hour.

However, during a spot enquiry it was discovered that seven contractors have already taken their bills without execution their portions of works.

Consequently, the EE and SO concerned have been suspended. With the chargesheets already framed, the inquiry insti-tuted to probe the fund misappropriation case is nearing completion, he disclosed.

Education Minister L Jayantakumar, responding to a question raised by MLA Ngursanglur, conceded that there is no proper guideline on the number of teaching and non-teaching staff that may be posted in a school.

However, on the recommendation of the Admi- nistrative Dept in a Cabinet meeting held recently, the Govet is working to frame a guideline in this regard, he stated.

Even though Doordarshan Kendra Imphal and All India Radio Imphal have no dedicated power line, they are being provided reliable and uninterrupted power supply, said Power Minister T Phungzathang in response to Dr Ng Bijoy.

In case DDK Imphal and AIR Imphal can deposit the requisite money, dedicated power line may be installed within a month, Phungzathang said.

To another query raised by MLA Khasim Ruivah, the Power Minister informed the House that the BSNL has taken up laying of optical fibres under SWAN (State Wide Area Network) Project.

Identification of locations for installation of SWAN nodes at State, district sub-divisional/block headquarters have been completed.

Identification of Departmental offices which would be connected under SWAN Project is underway, he added.
