MPSC age limit, ATSUM joins DESAM | Govt relaxes MPSC upper age limit

IMPHAL, Mar 3: In protest against the stand of the Government in connection with the ‘one time age relaxation’ for appearing in the MPSC- conducted examination, All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur (ATSUM) and Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) have decided to launch various intense agitations.

Addressing a joint press conference here this evening, the representatives of the two student bodies appealed to all the student organisations and the people to extend their support and co-operation to the cause.

DESAM president H Ashirjit Luwang said that in protest against prescribing the upper age limit of the MPSC conducted examination on the basis of the State Cabinet decision adopted in 2005, ATSUM and DESAM submitted numerous representations to the Government jointly with the request for maintaining the age limit being followed previously. However, the State Government has remained adamant to its stand. So ATSUM and DESAM have been compelled to take the joint decision of launching agitation against the Government.

Spokesperson of ATSUM Joseph Hmar asserted that the MPCC and the Government of Manipur seem to know nothing about the ground realities in fixing the upper age limit of the MPSC examination based on the pattern of the UPSC. The prescribed age limit of the UPSC examination cannot be imposed in Manipur at all. In case the Government does not change and remain stick to its position, then ATSUM and DESAM would not hesitate in taking recourse to even undemocratic form of agitation, he warned.

Advisor of DESAM PC Newton pointed out that the ‘one time age relaxation’ was not in the interest of Manipur. So the State Government should act in accordance to the demands of ATSUM and DESAM.

Meanwhile, it is conveyed that an open discussion session on the issue would be held starting from 10 am of March 5 at the hall of DM College of Science. The two student bodies have appealed to the people and Government officials to come and participate in the discussion session.
