IMPHAL, Aug 30: Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur district has been entrusted to find out whe-ther any Government em- ployee was involved in issuing 337 bogus NREGS job cards in Henglep Block and to ascertain how the whole operation was conducted.
Altogether, 337 bogus jobs cards were found issued in Henglep Block when Churachandpur DC Sumant Singh verified all the NREGS job cards issued in Churachandpur district, informed an official source.
Commissioner (Rural Development and Panchayati Raj) IS Laishram intimated the Churachandpur DC to investigate into the matter and find out whether Government officials were involved in issuing the extra job cards or whether all those extra job cards were forged ones.
Meanwhile acting on reports that there have been several deductions from the wages of NREGS beneficiaries by different elements, the Commissioner has instructed all the Deputy Commissioners to help beneficiaries open their accounts at post offices, if not at banks after consulting with Postal Department.
Beneficiaries of the scheme belonging to Imphal West and Imphal East districts have already opened their accounts at post offices.
On the other hand, Panchayat Ministry has identified all the five districts and Thoubal district as “minority concentrated districts” and allotted Rs 139 crores for infrastructure development in these districts.
In connection with the initiative, the Ministry has sought reports from the DCs concerned. It is reported that the allotted fund may be sanctioned after a joint meeting scheduled for September 8 between the DCs concerned and the Ministry on the formers’ reports.
