IMPHAL, Sep 1 : Exposing the chink in security arrangements in the highly fortified Babupara area, the official residence of the Chief Minister came under a bomb attack today at about 8.20 pm.
Significantly this is the second time the Chief Mi-nister’s official residence has come under attack.
As in the earlier attack, the police suspect that the offensive was launched from the eastern side, probably from Sanjenthong side.
Quoting reports from the bomb squads, police said that the bomb is probably a lethod bomb.
The bomb landed very near to the office of the Chief Minister and though there is no report of any casualty, the impact of the explosion created a knee deep crater. At the time of the incident, the CM was in his bungalow.
The proscribed PRE-PAK has claimed res- ponsibility for the attack. Aheiba Angom of the publicty dept of the outfit said that it was launched by a Special Task Force as a warning to the CM to clarify on certain points or else more attacks will follow.
Following the audacious attack security has been beefed up. Entry of vehicles towards the direction of the CM’s residence has been banned. Vehicles coming along NH-39 through North AOC are being diverted towards Mayai Lambi.
Security at the CM’s residence is provided by the 143rd Bn CRPF.
As news of the attack spread, high ranking police officers including the DG, ADG, IG (Int), SP of Imphal West, SP Special Branch and others rushed to the CM’s residence.
Cabinet colleagues of the CM also rushed to the CM’s residence.

BBA course in Manipur from Next Year
IMPHAL, Sep 1 : The opportunity of taking up Bachelor’s of Business Administration (BBA) study which was not available in Manipur although the course of Master of Business Administration (MBA) is being offered, will be now be provided to the students from the academic session of 2009 at DM College of Commerce, Imphal.
It is said the Academic Council of Manipur University has given permission for opening up BBA course at DM College of Commerce and the Additional Director of Higher Education has given the no objection certificate in this regard.
Informing this today, Principal of DM College of Commerce Ng Brajakumar pointed out that as there is no facility for taking up BBA course in Manipur even though MBA course is being offered, students from Manipur have to go to Bangalore, Mumbai or other cities to study BBA course. In pursuing the 3-year BBA course, a student has to spend atleast Rs 6 to 7 lakhs outside Manipur. However, this would become a thing of the past once the BBA course is started from the next year in DM College of Commerce. While informing that efforts are being made to ensure proper infrastructure for opening up the 30 seats BBA course to be affiliated under the Manipur University, Braja-kumar pointed out that among the requisite infrastructure, building and teachers are already in DM College of Commerce. There would be six semesters in the professional course that can be taken up by 10+2 students, he added.
