Kohima, Sep 7: The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) embarking on a ‘peace mission’ under the banner ‘A journey of common hope towards reconciliation, unity and peace’ are initiating a process to meet the different Naga underground groups from today and also tell the different factions about the urgent need for all Naga groups to come together for the sake of Naga people.

According to reports, the ‘peace mission’ team led by NSF president, Imchatoba Imchen, yesterday left for Mon district of Nagaland, the dominant area of the Khaplang faction of NSCN to apprise the NSCN-K leadership of the Naga students desire for peace in the society. The team was supposed to meet the NSCN-K leaders at Mon today, however, no information could be received as non of the peace mission team nor the NSCN-K leaders could be contacted.

Meanwhile, briefing newsmen before departing for Mon district at the Circuit House, Dimapur yesterday, NSF president, Imchatoba and vice president Charles Lotha, had said the students’ body is initiating the ‘peace mission’ as every Naga has equal responsibility to bring peace in Naga society. The NSF leaders said the objective of the ‘peace mission’ is to meet every Naga group and tell them of the futility of killing each other. “We will reach out to each and every Naga groups and urge them to immediately cease killing among ourselves,” they said. On the reasons why the students’ body is undertaking the ‘peace mission’, the NSF leaders said during their itinerary tour to all districts recently, the people had voiced their desire of peace and also urged the NSF to work for brining peace in Nagaland.

The Naga students’ leaders also made an appeal to all Nagas who want peace to put a sticker in their vehicles that says, “A journey of common hope towards reconciliation, unity and peace.” NSF volunteers will give out the stickers to all who want it, they informed.

They also informed that after meeting the NSCN (K) leaders, the team of peace mission would be meeting NSCN (IM) leaders for the same objectives.

The peace team would also be distributing posters saying ‘Reconciliation our faith to freedom’, “Reconciliation has no tribalism’, “Reconciliation our hope our future”, “Reconciliation power of the powerless” and “Reconciliation our strength” to the public.
