Wooing the strong electorates of the North east m which sends 24 MPs to Lok Sabha, the BJP in its manifesto bank upon eight point development mantra. In a copy made available to the press, in their manifesto entitled North East, the BJP said that North-East: Poor governance, corruption and insurgency have resulted in the resources-rich north-eastern states lagging behind.
The physical distance between the North-East and New Delhi has contributed to the widening of psychological distance. The NDA years saw the Union Government actively pushing a development agenda for the north-eastern States. A similar but more robust agenda will be crafted by the BJP in power for the welfare of every north-eastern State and the region’s rapid development.
In doing so, the BJP will be guided by the following eight mantra Immediate steps will be taken to stem the tide of illegal immigration from Bangladesh to Assam and other North-Eastern States.
The construction of the India-Bangladesh border fence will be completed without any further delay.
A special cell will be set up to monitor the detection, detention and deportation of illegal immigrants; insurgent groups will be dealt with firmly.
Simultaneously, the grievances of a section of the youth will be identified and addressed, the land and culture of indigenous ethnic groups will be protected, flood control in Assam and river water management will receive special attention, appropriate resources will be allocated for land development, agriculture and allied activities, housing, nutrition, health, education, rural connectivity and irrigation, new institutions of higher education in engineering and medical sciences will be set up, job-generating schemes will be initiated, especially in the services sector, to address the problem of unemployment in the region.
Tourism and traditional skills-based industries will be given a big boost and Special emphasis will be given to connectivity with and within North-Eastern States.
Cong neglected NE tribal people: Sangma
Congress neglected tribal people of the north eastern region of the country, said PA Sangma of Nationalist Congress Party who arrived in the state for election campaign for the NCP candidate, LB Sona in a public meeting held in Churachandpur town Tuesday.
PA Sangma arrived in Imphal with his son Z Sangma on Tuesday. He said the states of the north eastern region could not march ahead in the field of development as the Congress who ruled the country for the longest period had and has been neglecting the region.
“Congress always neglected and has been neglecting the tribal people of the north east,” Sangma reiterated and urged the people not to believe in the promises made by Congress.
He also expressed believe that more candidates of NCP from the region could win the election. Sangma said with the improvement of the party condition, more development works can be taken up in the region as NCP has always been concerned for the poor and underdeveloped people of the country.
LB Sona a nominee of the NCP is among the nine candidates to fight for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency with Congress candidate Thangso Baite, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, T Loly Adanee, People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) candidate Mani Charenamei are the considered to be the main contender of the ST reserved.
A total of 17,27,240 registered voters are likely to exercise their franchise in the outer Manipur constituency where polling will go on April 16.
Ukhrul district has 1, 00,994 voters, Senapati district has 1, 44,383, Tamenglong district has 78, 126, Churachandpur district has 1, 75,696, Chandel district has 91, 406 while seven ACs of Thoubal district lying within the same constituency has 1, 85,021, and Jiribam AC has 26, 587.
Recently formed, Manipur Democratic Alliance comprising the MPP, MSCP, NNP and NCP has declared LB Sona as their common candidate. Many leaders of the NCP state unit and other parties extending support to the NCP attended the meeting held in connection with the election of the party.
