Mizoram have 6 lakh, 29 thousand and 385 eligible voters

Altogether there are 6 lakh, 29 thousand and 385 eligible voters to exercise their franchise in the forth coming Lok Sabha and Assembly bye-elections to be held simultaneously on the 16th of this month. According to the State Chief Electoral Officer, over 92 percent of the voters have been issued Electors Photo Identity Cards so far and Electronic Voting Machine will be pressed into service for recording votes polled in these elections.

Meanwhile two more Polling Stations have been created in Mamit District such as Pukzing Vengthar in Dampa constituency and Nghalchawm in Mamit constituency raising the total Polling Stations in the state to 1028. One outstanding feature in this election is female voters out numbering male voters by 7089. Meanwhile 4 MP candidates for the lone Lok Sabha seat are busy campaigning in the villages. The Congress candidate, Mr. CL Ruala is currently touring in North Vanlaiphai area in Serchhip District while an Independent supported by opposition MNF and MPC, Dr. H. Lallungmuana is currently touring in Khawruhlian, Sakawrdai and Suangpuilawn area. Another Independent supported by Israel National Front, Mr. Rualpawla has covered Mamit, Saitual, West Phaileng and Aizawl town areas. The NCP candidate, Mr. Lalawmpuia Chhangte is yet to undertake tour to the villages from the next week. In South Tuipui Assembly constituency, the ruling candidate, Mr. John Siamkunga and an Independent supported by MNF, MPC and ZNP, Mr. K. Lalsanga who are locked in a straight fight are also campaigning in the villages with the help of the Party workers.

Meanwhile ZNP reiterated its neutrality in the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly bye-elections. In a press release, the Party stated that the Party has opted to become a silent spectator of the election without fielding a candidate or supporting other party candidate. The Party also clarified that the headquarters does not have any knowledge even if any leader of the party pledges support to anyone of the candidates.

MNF, MPC and MDF submitted a complaint to the Election Observer, Mrs Renilla D. Marak on the alleged violation of Model Code of Conduct by the Government of Mizoram. In a joint complain letter submitted to the Observer today, the three Parties accused the Government of utilizing public money and the service of Government servants for erecting the rostrum at Lammual for the public address of the AICC General Secretary, Mr. Rahul Gandhi on the 2nd of this month.

Mr. HT Sangliana, former MP has filed his nomination papers in the office of the Returning Officer, Bangalore Central Parliamentary constituency to contest in the election on Congress Party ticket. In reply to our Corr. Mr. HT Sangliana filed his nomination papers yesterday. He was accompanied by a number of Congress party workers. Polling in this constituency will be held on 23rd of this month along with other constituencies.

Mobile phone provider, AIRTEL assisted Gan Sabra today by presenting electric inverter, dresses, medicines and sports materials. The presents were handed over to the matron of the home, Mrs Lucy Remruati. The Home, established in March 2006 is currently looking after 11 children suffered from chronic ailments. The function was attended among others by the Traffic SP, Mr. Lalbiakzama.

Pastorate level conference of Presbyterian Church has begun in all the Pastorates since last night. The delegates deliberated upon the agenda drawn up for the conference today and took a number of important decisions concerning the internal matters of the Churches. The newly elected Chairmen of the Pastorates are to take over their charges at the congregation to be held tomorrow. The conference is to conclude tomorrow evening.

The new Drug Information Centre set up by Mizoram State Pharmacy Council was inaugurated by the Health Minister, Mr. Lalrinliana Sailo last night at a function in the Tourist Lodge, Chaltlang. Addressing the gathering, the Minister praised involvement of Mizoram State Pharmacy Council to give vital information to the people free or cost through the Drug Information Centre. He also hopes that this will act as an eye opener to the people towards various drugs and their effects in human body. The Drug Information Centre, the first of its kind ever set up in the State is housed in Mr. K. Lalhluna building, Zarkawt, Aizawl.

Three Bal Bhawan centres have started functioning in Aizawl today at Khatla YMA office, Electric Veng YMA Hall and Aizawl Art Gallery at Canteen Square. A number of children seeking fresh admission were admitted in the Centres today. Earlier, as many as 300 boys and girls within 5 to 16 age group have already been registered to attend classes in computer, music, keyboard, folk dances, handicraft and painting. Presently the Bal Bhawan classes will be held only on Saturday.

Today, the maximum temperature of Aizawl City was 30 degree Celsius and the minimum was 14.5 degree Celsius. Rainfall recorded during the day was 7.3 millimetres.
