LJP manifesto calls for smaller and better managed states

Patna, Apr.7 (ANI): The Ram Vilas Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) on Tuesday said that it would fight the upcoming general elections on the plank of creating smaller states, as this was the best way to ensure better administration and structured development. "The party believes that for better administration and development of neglected regions, formation of smaller states is necessary," LJP president Paswan said while releasing the party manifesto here.

The manifesto also promises minorities socio-economic and educational development as recommended by the Justice Rajindra Sachar Committee.

Vowing to neutralise communal elements in the country, Paswan said that it would be the LJP''s endeavor to ban organisations like the Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (RSS), the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal.

He promised to make public the recommendations of the Ranganath Mishra Commission, saying there would be a provision of 15 per cent reservation for minorities of which 10 per cent would be for Muslims.

The LJP also promised to provide reservations to women and OBCs in government jobs and the judiciary for which 50 per cent ceiling imposed by the Supreme Court would be removed through appropriate legislation.(ANI)

Rahul Gandhi underlines need of progress of Dalits and tribals

Raigarh (Chhattisgarh), Apr 7 (ANI): Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday called for an all round development of the country and slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for maintaining a limited vision on the issue.

Addressing a public meeting in Raigarh, Rahul Gandhi said that the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government believes that the country can only progress when the socially backward communities would progress.

However, he said, the BJP has a different policy.

"On one hand we think, if India will progress then poor, tribals and

dalits will also not lag behind. Whereas our opposition party, BJP thinks that India can progress, selective people can progress, but the backward class people, tribals and dalit can lag behind," said Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul asserted that the country needs a UPA government again for further prosperity and welfare of the poor.

"We (Congress) think that if we want to progress then every person of India will develop with us. If this happens, then every poor, Dalit and tribal in the society will also progress with the country," he added.

Rahul Gandhi, who recently filed his nomination papers from Amethi parliamentary constituency, would campaign in Orissa''s riot-hit Kandhamal District on Wednesday. (ANI)

Chidambaram faces shoe missile from scribe

New Delhi, Apr 7 (PTI) A Sikh journalist today hurled a shoe at Home Minister P Chidambaram at a press conference here protesting against CBI's clean chit to 1984 anti-Sikh riots accused Jagdish Tytler but missed the target by a whisker.

Chidambaram, who was addressing the media at the AICC headquarters here, was taken aback for a moment but he drew himself away from the missile hurled at him by Jarnail Singh, a reporter with Hindi daily Danik Jagran, who was sitting just in front him.

The journalist showed his anger when Chidambaram, who had answered his questions, told him that he cannot indulge in arguments over his answers.

"I protest," Singh said and threw the shoe at the minister that went past the target. The assembled gathering of journalists was surprised at the scribe's action that created flutters.

"Take him away," said Chidambaram adding "please, take him gently, gently" as he was escorted out of the conference hall by two AICC staff who held him by his arms.

Singh, who was later taken by police, was released as Chidambaram said he forgave him.

However, Jagran management took the matter seriously and said it was planning "disciplinary action" against the journalist for the "shameful act". PTI
