From M Kaimuanthang | Lamka, Apr 6: Most of the political parties which have fielded candidates for the 15th Lok Sabha election have started their campaign trail by organising rallies at various places in the state, including Churachandpur, since the last few days. On April 4 the Manipur Democratic Alliance, MDA, candidate LB Sona conducted a campaign at Thoubal Wabagai constituency’s Santhel and Selakhong from about 1 pm while on the same day the Congress(I) also organised a campaign rally at Churachandpur YPA hall.
During the Thoubal campaign of the NCP’s LB Sona most supporting party leaders of the NPP, MSCP, MPP and CPI turned up and accompanied the candidate apart from addressing the gatherings of large crowds.
NCP president and state ex-chief minister Radhabinod Koijam, MLA and NCP vice president Doukhomang, ex-minister and NPP president V Hangkhanlian, ex-minister and chairman of the election campaign committee M Kunjo Singh, secretary of the CPI (M) Sarat Salam, president of the Mahila NCP Wangnu Kom, vice president of the MsCP Devbarta Singh besides many others delivered speeches.
During their speeches most of the leaders were unanimous in their view that there were no other parties who really loved and cared for the state as a whole and for its development.
They said they are going to protect the state’s territorial integrity in real terms if voted to power and would usher in peace and development in the state.
During the rule of O Ibobi Singh, even now there are reports of killings every day when at least two to three people lost their lives at the hands of security forces or due to other armed trouble makers, they lamented.
The leaders also said some MPs were for some regions only and had not done anything for the development and progress of other regions, some others worked for the disintegration of the state, some for certain communities and played politics on religious lines and on religious sentiments. The recent hate speeches of Varun Gandhi was testimony to this, they said.
They said in the past some candidates canvassed for votes and when voted to power they never kept their promises and forgot the voters. But their candidate when voted to power would not act that way and see that real development takes place in the areas.
They said, “dont believe in what we say, see through our action”.
Sarat Salam said that there are 365 days and two people died each day thus proving there was chaos and confusion in the state.
Later, LB Sona adrressed the gathering and stated that if he voted to power he would work for the real peace and development of the state and the region which had been neglected during the last many years.
Tomorrow LB Sona will organise another campaign rally for the first time at New Lamka YPA Hall from 10 am. PA Sangma will address the large gathering apart from other leaders.
A cultural show by three troupes of YPA Zenhang Lamka, Kawnpui and Saikot will be presented on the occasion.
Many artistes from the district and state level have also confirmed participation in the rtally while Mahila Nationalist Congress workers and leaders of the National Students Union will address the gathering.
Many supporters from Thoubal will also attend in large numbers.
