39 Govt schools draw blank in HSLC exam in Manipur

IMPHAL, Jun 1: Thirty-nine Government schools have drawn blank in the result of the High School Leaving Certificate examination, 2009 which was declared by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur yesterday even as 22 other Govt schools could not ensure appearance of their students in the examination.

According to an official source, a total of 7388 students from 225 Government schools appeared in the High School Leaving Certificate Examination, 2009 the result of which was declared yesterday.

However, in 39 schools none of the student could get through.

While 22 Government schools could not ensure appearance of their students in the examination conducted by the Board this time, the recorded number of students who appeared in the examination from 37 other Government schools was in the range of 1 to 10 in each school.

Among the 225 Government schools, 12 students appeared in the examination from Kasom Khullen High School and all of 12 of them passed in the first division.

Of the total 7388 students of Government schools who sat for the examination, 356 passed in first division, 1432 in second division and 1095 in third division recording a pass percentage of just 39.02.

It is possible that the Board may take a decision to derecognise the schools which had failed to enrol any students for appearing in the examination or do so only in name sake and imposing penalty on those which could not produce any successful students for three conse-cutive years, the source said.

On the other hand, out of total 2147 students from 85 Government aided schools who appeared in the same examination, 777 of them cleared including 95 in first division, 317 in second division and 365 in third division, thus registering a pass percentage of 36.17.

However, none of the students from 18 aided schools managed to get through the examination.

As for the performance of private schools, out of 18189 students who appeared for the examination from 476 private schools, 12030 got through the examination with 3575 of them securing first division, 5806 in second division and 2649 in third division and the total pass percentage recorded was 66.28.

Among the private schools too, 16 schools recorded nil in this year’s HSLC examination.
