IMPHAL, Jun 1: The Union Power Ministry has given consent to the State Government’s proposal to hold 5 percent equity share in the Tipaimukh Multipurpose Project having an installed capacity of 1500 MW. The Union Power Ministry gave its consent during a joint meeting held at New Delhi today.
The meeting presided by Power Secretary Dharma was attended by officials of State Government, NEEPCO and Satluj Company. Foundation stone for the Tipaimukh Multi-purpose Project which would be taken up as a joint venture was laid by former Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.
However, the meeting did not take any decision on the company which would take up the project with the State Government as a joint venture. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 8000 crores. The Power Ministry asked the Chief Secretary Rakesh, Principal Secretary (Power) LP Golmei and Power Chief Engineer BS Chingtham who represented the State Govt to start executing the project within this year.
The Union Envi-ronment and Forest Ministry has already given Environmental Clearance for the Multipurpose Project.
NEEPCO, nodal agency of the project, has also invited global tender for the project.
