Manipur scribes to stage silent rally today

IMPHAL, Nov 25 – Journalists’ community here under the aegis of All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union, demanding appropriate actions from the State Government over the killing of a junior sub-editor, is all set to stage a silent protest rally tomorrow.

Journalists fraternity here lamenting government’s “inaction” and demanding judicial inquiry into the killing of Konsam Rishikanta, a trainee sub-editor of The Imphal Free Press on November 17, continued their cease work and staged sit-in demonstration affecting the publication of newspapers in the State for the sixth day.

Meanwhile, a ministerial team headed by Information Minister T N Haokip personally visited the striking journalists and requested them to reconsider the stand to hold the rally. The Ministers team even assured that a CBI inquiry could be instituted if the journalists suspended the proposed rally.

However, the journalists community asked the Ministerial team to provide the Cabinet decision so that it could be tabled in the general body meeting of AMWJU
