YMA to screen poll manifestoes

NEWMAI NEWS

AIZAWL, Nov 22 – The Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) has decided to screen and revise all the manifestoes of political parties in Mizoram with regard to the December 2 Assembly poll in the State.

The decision of the CYMA was prompted by the promises of certain political parties which have negative effect for Mizoram.

Meanwhile, reacting strongly to the comment of BJP chief Rajnath Singh who had reportedly promised to grant an autonomous district for the Hmar community in Mizoram, the CYMA, the largest and most influential NGO in the State, has condemned the statement.

BJP president Rajnath Singh, while campaigning for his party in Mizoram on November 15, had reportedly promised to grant an autonomous district for the Hmar community if the party comes to power after the December 2 Mizoram Assembly election.

The CYMA said today in a press release that the promise of Rajnath Singh amounts to attempting to break up Mizoram.

The statement said that any political party or leader giving such promises, which is a threat to the territorial integrity of Mizoram, will not be allowed to stay in the State.

Endorsing the move of the CYMA, the Mizoram Students’ Union said that the BJP or any other party that attempt to break up Mizoram will be thrown out of the State.
