MNF Government fails to meet the need of the poor people - PM

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said, MNF Government fails to meet the need of the poor people if the fund provided by the Centre is not properly utilized. Addressing a mammoth election rally in Aizawl Lammual today, the Prime Minister said that MNF Government has utilized only 69 crore rupees out of 117 crore rupees provided by the Centre for National Rural Health Mission.

He also alleged that the fund provided by the Centre for National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and SSA are not properly utilized by the MNF Government. Referring to Detailed Project Report submitted by the state government for obtaining fund from the Centre, the Prime Minister also accused the State Government of being slow and inactive in this regard. Referring to Kolodyne Multi Modal Project linking Mizoram with Calcutta Port through Akyab in Myanmar, the Prime Minister said that this will open up good multi modal transport system in the North East. Stating that he is elected representative from the North East, the Prime Minister advised the voters to cast their vote by using their clear conscience. The election rally was presided over by the Congress President, Mr. Lal Thanhawla. Earlier the Prime Minister arrived by Helicopter at Thuampui Helipad and proceeded to Assam Rifles Battallion Hqrs. After the meeting, the Prime Minister left Aizawl by Helicopter from Thuampui Helipad.

MPF President, Rev. Dr. H. Vanlalauva asked the voters to resist temptation by inducement money being made available by candidates and party workers in the coming Assembly elections. In his election message to the people, the MPF President said, those who try to win over the voters by using inducement money try to suppress the voting right of the electors and this has to be condemned. He also advised the people to stand firm against rumours and the rumour mongers who try to mislead the voters. He also condemned any attempt to disrupt free, fair and peaceful elections by threat and intimidation. Asking all the voters to exercise their franchise with clear conscience, the MPF President also underlined the need to stand firm against such threat and intimidations.

MPF General Secretary not happy with the Congress Party

MPF General Secretary, Mr. Lalramthanga said, the MPF is not consulted when the Congress Party arranged campaign meeting in connection with the visit of AICC General Secretary, Mr. Rahul Gandhi and the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh. In reply to ZOENT Correspondent, the MPF General Secretary said, the representatives of MPF met the Congress President, Mr. Lal Thanhawla in connection with the visit programme the Prime Minister but the MPF was not asked to preside over today’s election rally. The MPF General Secretary said that all Party meeting held on 30th of April this year has authorized the MPF to preside over election meetings.

Non MPF Churches held meeting

Churches not affiliated to Mizoram People Forum met together in Baptist House at Khatla yesterday evening and discussed election-related issues including the activities of MPF. ZONET Correspondent understands that the meeting was attended by Mizoram Baptist Church, the Salvation Army, the United Pentecostal Church (North East India) and the Seventh Day Adventist. While appreciating the work and activities of the MPF to ensure free, fair and peaceful election, the Non-MPF Churches also are of the opinion that there are many loopholes which can be manipulated by some ruthless party workers.

Central Executive Committee of Central YMA expressed grave concern


Central Executive Committee of Central YMA expressed grave concern over the alleged intimidation of voters in Serlui, Tuivawl and Chalfilh constituencies by suspected HPC militants. The meeting held last night in Central YMA Office however felt necessary to obtain more information about the intimidations. The meeting was presided over by the Central YMA Vice President, Mr. Lal Chungnunga. As reported earlier, the suspected HPC activists asked the Village Council Presidents and leaders of Political Parties to convince the voters to cast their votes in favour of the Congress candidates.

Meanwhile MNF Party accused the Congress Party of having link with the HPC militants. In a press release, the MNF blamed the Congress party for the act and alleged that the unanimous decision taken by the MPF and all Political parties is violated. In the meantime Ex-MNA, PAMRA, MURA and MRWA also blamed the HPC (D) for the intimidation and said that the HPC (D) and the Congress will be responsible if there is disruption of polling in the area.

NSS Unit of Govt. Mamawii Higher Secondary School donated blood for the patients of Aizawl Civil Hospital today. 30 male, 17 female and one teacher donated 48 units of blood.

Social Worker working in Mission for Social Reform (MSR) in Tuikual, Samuel Lalremruata of Dinthar was smashed by the inmate of the De-addiction Centre this morning. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital where he succumbed to his injury. The Centre leaders told ZONET that the inmate of the home, Laldingliana of New Champhai, a drug addict was mentally unsound and had cut all his left fingers earlier.

2nd IR Battalion personnel deployed in Chhatisgarh are arriving in the Ist IR Battalion Hqrs. at Mualvum this evening. The DIG of Mizoram Police told ZONET that all those who availed the vehicles provided by the Government of Mizoram from Guwahati are expected to arrive in the Ist IR Battalion Hqrs. tonight and those who are proceeding to Mizoram by road by their vehicles are likely to arrive late. They are to proceed to their Battalion Hqrs. in Khawzawl to assist the state Police in the election duties.
