Guwahati: Following the terror strikes in recent times in most parts of India, Home Ministry sources in New Delhi said a regional centre of the National Security Guards (NSG) would soon to be set up either in Meghalaya or Assam to ensure quicker response to tackle Mumbai-like terrorist strikes.
Setting up of regional centres of NSG in various parts of the country is part of the series of measure chalked out by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs following the Mumbai incident, added the sources.
Meanwhile, following the strong apprehension of the occurrence of Mumbai-like terror attack in Assam, known for its vulnerable geographical location attached to the porous international border, the State unit of the CPI has sent an SOS to New Delhi for initiating adequate measures 'to save Assam' from possible terror attack.
Besides, the party has demanded to remove, what it said, all political interference in the functioning of the Assam police force.
Pointing out to the reported state of confusion over the ongoing investigation into the recent serial blasts in Assam, CPI national executive member and former minister Promode Gogoi said it seems that the police force in the State is completely guided by the ruling party. "The police should be allowed to function freely, without any political influence," he added.
He said, the October 30 terror attacks in Assam were a warning for the people of the whole country that a big conspiracy has been hatched by foreign agencies to destabilise India, although the Assam government had refused to accept this notion earlier.
"We hope that the CBI will come forward to initiate the probe without further delay to identify the forces involved in the serial blasts," he said.
"The State Government has already moved the Centre for a CBI inquiry into the blasts", he added. (NNN)
