Brutal killing of SDO, two subordinates Kasom Khullen rallies, protests

MPHAL, Feb 18 : Showing solidarity with humanity and rejecting bestial acts, people of Kasom Khullen today came out in large droves and staged sit-in-protests and took out a rally to denounce the brutal killing of its SDO Dr Th Kisan and his two subordinates Aribam Rajen and Yumnam Loken.

From 10 am today, the people of the sub-division, ranging from children to the elderly citizens to the physically challenged ventured out from their homesteads to stage a sit-in-protest against the bestial killing.

At 2 pm the grief stricken and anguished people then took out a protest rally from the gate of the Forest Gate till the office of the SDO.

As the rally snaked its way through the way from the Forest Gate to the SDO office, the rallyists raised slogans denouncing the brutal killing and demanded that the culprits be punished. The villagers also demanded that fitting punishment be given to the murderers.
Young school children who participated in the rally and the others also carried placards, emblazoned with the slogans ‘We want peace, we do not want violence,’ ‘Give peace a chance,’ etc.
On arriving at the SDO office rallyists held a public meeting wherein the killing of the SDO and his staff was strongly condemned. The people also demanded the unconditional release of the other three employees whose whereabouts are still not known.

After the rally and the public protest, the Kasom Khullen Sub-Division Development adopted a 7 point resolution.

The resolutions include; condemning the killing of the SDO and his two staff, the release of the three employees still in the custody of the abductors, to institute a Judicial Inquiry against the killing at the earliest, to book the killers and give them fitting punishment as per law, provide appropriate ex-gratia to the next of kins of the victims, not to repeat such criminal acts on department staff and innocent civilians of the sub-division and to take up any agitation under the aegis of the Kasom Khullen Sub-Division Development Association in connection with case.

Governor leads in condemning dastardly killing

IMPHAL, Feb 18: Governor Gurbachan Jagat has expressed pain and anguish at the brutal killing of SDO Kasom Khullen Dr Thingnam Kishan Singh along with his two subordinates A Rajen and Sharma and and Y Token after abducting them by some unknown persons.
Condemning the incident, the Governor urged the State Government to take swift and effective action against the perpetrators, so that the rule of law and respect for authority is maintained.
Gurbachan Jagat said, “Dr Kishan was known to be a man of principle and his death will cause a great vacuum not only in the family but also in the State administration and Manipuri society”.
He appealed to the people of the State to come together and share the grief of the family of the deceased and also to resolve to work together for peace and security, so that such incidents are not repeated in future.
Taphou Kuki Village Authority strongly condemned the dumping of dead bodies of Dr Th Kishan and his subordinates inside the area of the village. The VA urged the concerned to clarify on the incident. The village also shared the grief and sorrow of the bereaved family.
Chandel Naga People’s Organisation and Anal Naga Taangpi (ANTA) while condemning the killing pledged support to the bandhs called by different organisations in connection with the killing.
Zeliangrong Union (AMN) and Zeliangrong Youth Front (AMN) also strongly condemned the inhuman killing of Dr Th Kishan and his subbordinates. ZU said that the State Government and ‘revolutionary groups’ must deal such inhuman acts according to their law and own capacity.
The people of Manipur should take a pledge to oppose and take a collective action against the organisations and individuals who involve in such brutal acts.
Kuki Students’ Organisation, Sardar Hills while condemning the incident urged the concerned to cla-rify regarding the killing to avoid any misunderstanding amongst general public.
Naga People Organisation (NPO), Senapati Dis- trict Women Association (SDWA) and Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) while expressing strong resentment over the killing stated that the orga-nisations would not tolerate or accept the anti-social elements to create chaos and antagonism among people. The bodies urged the concerned authorities to book the culprits at the earliest.
Kabui Mothers’ Association, (KAMA), Zeliang- rong Students’ Union, Ma-nipur, Mao Naga Women Welfare Association, All Tribal Women Organisation, Chandel, Kuki Stu- dents’ Organisation, Mao Council, Thadou Students’ Association, Komrem Students’ Union, Moyon Stu- dents’ Union and All Jiri- bam Welfare Association also condemned the killing.
Condemning the inhuman killing, AMSU called a 12-hour general strike from 6 am to 6 pm of February 19. The students body also pressed the Government to bring the culprits into book.
Condemning the killing, Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) accused that the perpetrators is responsible if any untoward incident happens in the State because of the killing.
AISF Manipur State Council, DM College of Arts Students’ Union, Kangleipak Students Union, Democratic Youth Fe- deration of India and Ma-lom Tulihal Students Union also condemned the killing of Dr Thingnam Kishan and his two subbordinates.

UPF decries savage killing

IMPHAL, Feb 18: The United People’s Front (UPF), a joint body of several Kuki UG groups, has also condemned the macabre killing of Kasom Khullen SDO Dr Thingnam Kishan and his two staff , conveyed a press release issued by its information and publicity secretary SN Thadou.
Urging the authority concerned to book the culprits at the earliest, the UPF appealed to the public not to spread any rumour in the society but to maintain calm.
Condemning and questioning the motive behind the gruesome murder of the three employees at Taphou Kuki village in Senapati district after they were abducted from Ukhrul district, the UPF cautioned that any organisation trying to create problems within jurisdiction of Kuki community will be considered as enemy of the UPF.
While praying for the bereaved families, the UPF also paid obeisance to the departed souls.
Meet held : A public meeting aimed at pacifying the fury and anguish of the people in the aftermath of the murder of Kasom Khullen SDO and the two sub-ordinate staff was held at Nagamapal Shingjubung Leirak crossing today.
The meeting was convened instatenously at the locality of SDO Dr Thingnam Kishan.
Representatives of different civil organisations addressing the function appeal to the people to keep their conscience clear so that anger and emotion do not lead to any communal conflict.
Speaking at the meeting, bereaved wife of Dr Thingnam Kishan, Th Romita said that the prime accused of the murder was the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul district. Saying she does not want the ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakhs announced by the Govt, Romita advised the Govt use the same amo-unt in hunting down the killers.

More Naga bodies condemn

Imphal, Feb 18: The Uni-ted Naga Council (UNC), Naga Women Union Manipur (NWUM), All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM) and Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (South Sector) (NPMHR) have expressed their deepest anguish over the brutal murder of Dr Th Kishan, SDO of Kasom Khullen Sub Division and two of his subordinate staff, Yumnam Token, and Ari-bam Rajen by unknown mis- creants on February 17 near Taphou Kuki village after abducting them from Ukhrul district on February 13 .
UNC president Samson Remmei, NWUM president Grace Shatsang, ANSAM president A.David Choro and NPMHR-South sector convenor Sengul Pham-hring while conveying their message through NNN said that the Naga frontal orga-nisations strongly con- demn such inhuman act of killing people, whatsoever the justification may be. “We would like to empha-size that such senseless violence and bloodshed has bereaved and trauma-tized many families psycho- logically and physically and marred the peaceful co-existence of communities,” they said.
The four Naga influential bodies then stated that in this moment of grief, the Naga people express “our deepest condolence to the families of the deceased,” ading, “We share their grief and burden of being inno-cent victims of an inhuman act. We put forth our sincerest and most earnest commitment that we will do our utmost within our dis-posal to bring those guilty to book and justice.”
UNC, ANSAM, NWUM and ANSAM appeal to all in the ‘spirit of oneness in this time of sorrow and grief’ to uphold the ideals of peace and tolerance. “At this jun-cture of chaos and confu- sion perpetrated by uniden-tified miscreants we urge the peace loving people of Manipur and other like-minded individuals and organizations to exercise utmost restrain and refrain from falling victims to the blame-game which will only fulfill the intentions of vested groups and anti-social elements that seeks to sow seeds of hatred and differences among commu-nities. We also urge all for collective and strongest ef-forts and endeavors to de- feat and stop the commis-sion of such heinous crimes and killings from our socie-ty,” the Naga bodies said.

Tadubi SDO PK Jha too under threat

Close on the heels of the brutal murder of Kasom Khullen SDO and his two sub-ordinate staff, SDO of Tadubi under Senapati district, PK Jha has reportedly come under militant threat. Senapati DC Nidhi Kesharwani said that the Tadubi SDO has been stationed at Sena-pati district headquarters from where he is dischar-ging his duties. Cadres of the FGN (Federal Govt of Nahaland) allegedly demanded Rs one lakh from SDO PK Jha a few days back with a stern warning of dire conse-quences in case of failure to fulfil the demand, said SP Senapati Nishit Kumar Ujwal quoting complaints submitted to his office and the district administration.
The SDO has been allotted security guards, he said. Notably, the All Manipur MCS Officers Assn has appealed to the Govt to take up neces-sary security measures to ensure that they can function effectively and efficiently with a sense of security. Regarding the recovery of the corpses of SDO Kasom and his two staff near Taphou Kuki village in Senapati district yesterday, the Senapati SP said that a massive search operation has been launched by three teams oi of State security forces.
