ZU serves ultimatum to Kuki UGs

Imphal, February 16 2009: The Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) or ZU-AMN has served an ultimatum to the Kuki Liberation Army/Kuki Liberation Organisation (KLA/KLO) to fulfill the promises made by the Kuki outfit in settling the bus burning incident of Assam last year where two persons hailing from the Zeliangrong community were charred to death. The ZU-AMN has given February 22 as the deadline to the KLA/KLO to implement its promises or else the Zeliangrong organisation will hand over the issue to the Zeliangrong public.

"ZU-AMN welcomed the good gesture shown by the proscribed KLA/KLO in shouldering the responsibility of charring two passengers identified as Robert Gonmei and Ginthailu Gangmeipui on October 23, 2008 at Lahorijan, Assam.

The ZU also pleased to learn that the said organization had accepted to settle the problem as per the Zeliangrong custom as published in the local newspapers on October 26 and 13th November 13,2008," said the ZU-AMN while adding, "In the line with the good gestures shown by the proscribed outfit, the Zeliangrong Union had contacted the civil societies of the Kuki community to find ways and means to settle the problem before it got flare up.

The sole aim of ZU is to avoid any more communal tension like that of the recent past experienced between the communities.

There is no doubt that the incident of the recent past still hampered in building a mutual trust and confidence between the two communities.

As a process of confidence building measure the two communities need to settle any problem arising between the two communities mutually.

And let there be no such incidents between the two communities.

May the Lord Jesus help us to find all possible ways and means to settle the issue once and for all as per the customary law," prayed the ZU-AMN today.

The Zeliangrong organisation also said that it also would like to ask the concerned organization to keep their promises and not to get disheartened by the condemnations from any organization.

"It is natural for every incident to be condemned in one way or the other.

It will be unfortunate for the two communities to leave the problem unsettled.

The Zeliangrong Union will not be responsible for any eventuality if the KLA/KLO fails to response to the intimation within February 22.The Zeliangrong Union will have no other option but to hand over the issue to the Zeliangrong public for final decision," affirmed the ZU-AMN.
