Mizoram celebrates 22nd statehood

Mizoram is celebrating its 22nd statehood anniversary on Friday. It was on this day, in 1987, the Union territory of Mizoram was elevated to a full fledged state to become the 23rd state of the Indian union. Following the passage of the Constitution 53rd Amendment Bill and the state of Mizoram Bill 1986 by the Parliament, it may be recalled that the state was inaugurated by the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on that day, raising the 30 member UT Assembly to a 40 member state Legislative Assembly.

Three administrative districts Aizawl, Lunglei and Chhimtuipui and 301 village Councils at the grassroot level were also created for administrative convenience.

All India Radio, Aizawl, on Friday started a 10 minute daily news bulletin in Mizo language at 7.30 am to mark the 22nd Anniversary of Mizoram State Day.

It was inaugurated by the state Chief Minister Mr.Lathanhawla.

News headlines are to be broadcast by FM Station at 8 pm and 9 pm everyday.

The duration of weekly district News Letter on every Sunday has also been increased by five minute that is 6.45 to 6.55 pm.
