Nine women candidates in Mizoram Assembly Election

Surpassing the previous elections, nine women candidates are in the fray for the coming Mizoram Assembly elections. Most of the Political Parties have fielded women candidates as their official candidates. The ruling MNF Candidate has fielded Mrs. Lalhlimpuii in Hrangturzo constituency while the Congress has placed its Mahila President, Mrs. Zothankimi as its candidate in Aizawl West-II. The UDA fielded Ms. Lalhmingthangi Hmar in Champhai South Constituency to face the MNF Party hero, Mr. Zoramthanga.

The BJP has 2 women candidates, Mrs. C. Lalnunziri and Mrs. Ramfangzauvi in Aizawl North-II and Kolasib constituency respectively. The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) also has 2 women candidates, Mrs. R. Lalrinmawi and Mrs. Lalthuammawii who are contesting in Kolasib and Lunglei South respectively. Lok Bharati, a Party newly known to Mizoram also has fielded Mrs. Vanlalhmingchhuangi as its candidate in Chalfilh constituency while Laldinkimi, a popular singer of devotional songs also contests in East Tuipui seat as Independent.

Meanwhile the political campaign atmosphere has covered the entire state with campaign Information Offices set up in a number of District Headquarter towns. Candidates and the Party Workers are also busily engaged in the Electioneering works. Our Correspondent in the District Hqrs. towns however reported that Campaign atmosphere is comparatively colder so far as compared to the previous elections. In Lunglei, popular election songs played through loud speaker in the party campaign offices are heard again from a few party offices. In Serchhip district, Enforcement Committee of Model Code of Conduct inspected adherence to the Election Model Code of Conduct in various villages to ensure free and fair elections.

In Champhai, the Deputy Commission, Mr. TV Fambol briefed news persons today and informed them of the on going preparations for the elections. He also said that the Strong Room, considered to be too congested is being reconstructed. The District SP, Mr. C. Lalthanmawia also told Media Persons that 15 Polling Stations have been identified as sensitive polling stations which will be manned by Central Para Military Force. Our Correspondents in various District Hqrs. reported that the joint effort of the MPF and NGOs is attributed for the campaign going on in a low key till today.
