Lamka, Dec 20: The Zomi Economic Planning and Development Agency, ZEPADA, in a press handout today said that the worries of farmers due to crop failure had overshadowed the festive mood of the Christians as they have been haunted by the dreaded Mautam famine.
Their suffering is compounded by the non-distribution of Mautam relief well on time by the government which they are endlessly waiting for.
In this regard the ZEPADA urged the FCI department on the 11th of this month for direct lifting of all famine related items from Dimapur to Churachandpur at least till the 3rd of December, it said.
Meanwhile, the DC Churachandpur said that all requisite amount of food had been accredited for procuring the rice, claimed the ZEPADA.
The Zepada further questioned as to why relief material got delayed for a long six months to release the fund and more than one month to procure and distribute the relief foodgrains?
It said all the PDS items remain in the granaries of the power holders citing the recent development that while all rice are being arranged and distributed through APL retail agents at the rate of 100 quintals each for each family, the public are hardly benefited as the agents are more concerned with procuring utilisation certificates.
It said the ZEPADA learnt from relieable sources that such agents submitted utilisation certificates for November 2008 claiming to have distributed APL rice before the 15th of December whereas the public remained in the dark about it.
In yet another development today, a new CD album by John L Varte containing about 11 songs has been released at Tubuang peace ground in a simple but impressive function organised for the purpose.
The album has been produced by Ramlhun H Hmar and the name of the album is "Tlaini Um Nawh".
The function was attended as chief guest by the Tipaimukh SDO Lalramsang, MCS, who released the CD as well as Khaipao Haokip, president of the ITLC and Lienkhopao Singson as functional president and chief host respectively.
