9 houses gutted in Suangpehmun village

LAMKA, Jan 20 : Nine houses in the interior village of Suangpehmun, about 140 kms from here were razed to the ground during an inferno last night, sources said today, reports our CCpur correspondent. Local MLA V Hang-khanlian has sent supplies to the village early today while social organizations rushed volunteers for relief work. GI sheets for all the nine houses will also be arranged shortly said a confi-dante of the MLA.

Though details are yet to be ascertained voluntary organiza-tions said the houses, located in close proximity to each other were completely gutted. No report of casualty.

KRA refutes

IMPHAL, Jan 20: Refuting the allegation of demanding money from the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in Saikul sub-division of Senapati district, armed outfit Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) has clarified that being a party to the Suspen- sion of Operation (SoO) signed with the Centre and the State Government there is no question of demanding money from any of the developmental works being taken up in Saikul block including implementation of the NREGS.

Talking to The Sangai Express in this connection, publicity secretary of the armed outfit TH Misao also appealed to other UG groups to restrain from imposing such undue dema- nds from developmental works.

If case of detecting any irregularities in the implementation of the develop- mental works, whether it be NREGS or others, then KRA would take up necessary action against the officials concerned, he warned.


Found dead

Lamka, Jan 20: A man probably in his mid-forty, nude, with bruises on his body was dead along the Khuga River near New Zoveng here early in the morning, reports our Churachandpur correspondent.

TSA urges

IMPHAL, Jan 20: Thadou Students’ Association (TSA) urged the JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO to suspend their ongoing agitation of closing down of Government offices before January 21 in the interest of the public. TSA further said that it would open all the offices with the help security forces if the agitating JAC does not open the offices.

TSA will also conduct a spot inquiry regarding the implementation of NREGS.


Sports meet

IMPHAL, Jan 20: To give boost to sporting spirits of youth of Chandel district, 8 Assam Rifles helped Haika Village Youth Club in organising 14 Winter Sports Competition for the villagers of Sajik Tampak. Events like football and volleyball were the main competitions of the eight days sporting extravaganza, said a press release of PRO Hqs IGAR(S).
