Imphal : Expressing discontentment over the alleged long negligence of the state government and its failure to disburse the pending salaries for more than 19 (nineteen) months including arrears and allowances for 835 teachers in the six Autonomous District Councils (ADCs), the All Manipur Newly Appointed Autonomous District Council Teachers’ Association, 2006 has called for a 24 hours total Chakka bandh on January 27.
The teachers’ association has also resolved to close down the six ADCs offices for two days on January 23-24.
P.S. Joram and S. Lupho, president and secretary of the association respectively informed NNN that the teachers’ association in view of the long negligence of the state government in not disbursing its pending pay for more than 19 months (nineteen) including arrears and allowances for 835 teachers in the six ADCs, the association resolved to called for the total 24 hours Chakka bandh on January 27. The association will also close down all the six ADC offices for two day on January 23-24 in protest against the alleged failure of the state government to disburse the salaries, conveyed the leaders of the association and further informed that the decision was taken during a general body of the association at Tampha Hotel Conference Hall in Imphal on Wednesday.
In this connection, the teachers’ association also appealed to all the thinking citizens and NGOs especially in the hill districts to cooperate in the interest of justice in general and the long pathetic sufferings of the said teachers in particular. It also requested all types of conveyances to cooperate with the bandh and warn that any occurrence of untoward incident against this request would be the responsibility of the individual or the violator.
The teachers’ association also informed that despite their normal duties, their salaries, allowances and arrears have not been disbursed since May 2007 for Ukhrul and Chandel districts and since July 2007 for that of Senapati, Tamenglong, Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts. P.S. Joram, president of the association also informed that the teachers’ association had earlier apprised the Chairman of the Hill Areas Committee on the same matter on October 9, 2008 and also submitted a letter to DD. Thasii, minister of Tribal development on December 24, 2008 for the same reason.
